Massachusetts Job Market

Yet another reason to move to Massachusetts...

If you are considering relocating, Massachusetts is a great place to consider.  Last month was the seventh in a row where Massachusetts saw job gains, adding about 64,000 since December.  The state is well below the national average when it comes to the unemployment rate.

Here are some quick facts:

  • The state’s median weekly wage has grown by about 7.5 percent since 2007, the report said, drawing on data prepared by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. The national average is 2.3 percent.
  • The state’s median weekly wage is $900 compared with a national average of about $700.
  • More than 40 percent of the state’s work force has a four-year college degree or more education. The national average is just greater than 20 percent.
  • Boston-Cambridge-Quincy is 17th in the nation in terms of the percentage of its work force that has attained at least a high school diploma. Worcester is 21st overall. Springfield ranked 64th in the nation, though.
  • In terms of jobs for people with a bachelor’s degree, Springfield comes out pretty well: 36th in the nation. That was close to metropolitan Boston at 27th. But that was way behind Worcester at third in the country!
  • The state's largest gains last month came in the leisure and hospitality sector, which added 2,800 jobs. Professional, scientific and business services added 2,700 positions, while construction gained 1,600 jobs.

Indoor Rock Climbing in Massachusetts

Just about every Thursday I go to the gym...  To Central Rock Gym in Worcester and do some indoor rock climbing.  Rock Climbing offers a great workout while having fun at the same time.

Central Rock Gym is Central Massachusetts' largest indoor climbing gym. It is located across the street from the Higgins Armory, near Sam's Club, at the 190/290 interchange.

The state of the art climbing gym includes:
  • 14,000 square feet of climbing area
  • Climbing walls range in height from 15 to over 40 feet!
  • Terrain difficulty ranges from beginner to expert
  • A separate beginner's area and a wall just for kids
  • Locker rooms
  • Classes for beginners
  • Large Stretching/Yoga area
  • A Birthday/Party room
  • Rentals and a retail shop for climbing gear
  • Lounge area to hang out in, complete with free wireless internet
  • Plenty of on-site parking
This video gives you an idea of what the gym looks like.

Central Rock Gym offers great opportunities for those looking to socialize also.  This is one gym that you can't workout alone with the exception of bolder climbing.  Bring your climbing partner and get ready for some exercise and fun!  From ladies night to college night to family night, there's something for everyone.  I like going on Thursday nights because of the free pizza.  Nothing like stuffing your stomach full of delicious food right before climbing... :)

My first post and 8 things to look for in your REALTOR

So I've had this blog for a while now, but I have yet to post anything. I received this testimonial today, and I thought it would be a great way to start my blog. Please share your opinions and suggestions with me.

Dear Jason,

Having made the decision to move my family across the country to Massachusetts,

Massachusetts Map

I began my search for the right Realtor. I spent days contacting and investigating Realtors. I wanted to ensure the agents under consideration had the right credentials, experience, solid track record, and a good reputation. After I defined the criterion, and after I interviewed the candidates, I narrowed the list to seven by testing their promptness to responding to my emails and voice messages. I flew out to Massachusetts to make the final cut when I unintentionally met Jason Piedrasanta. Without meeting the seven agents I had flown out to meet, I selected Jason, which was best decision for the following reasons:

1. Jason not only thoroughly consulted with me about my wants and needs in a property, but with my wife as well, who was not able to look for a property with us.

2. Jason was able to prioritize my wife's needs and wishes while addressing mine as well to quickly p
resent me with a list of properties that met with my wife's approval.

3. Jason's business acumen and real estate prowess made me secure in his suggestions and decisions.

4. Jason turned a potentially long and tedious real estate hunt into an enjoyable experience. His charismatic personality balanced with his consistent follow ups confirmed that we were important and that we were getting the right property that would meet our family's needs.

5. Jason helped to organize all of the financial and legal participants of the real estate transactions while I was on the other side of the country. Jason's connections are knowledgeable, efficient, and ethical.

6. Jason organized and accompanied the home inspection in my absence and provided me with a very complete report of the final property.

7. Jason effectively negotiated on my behalf with the seller's to finalize and accept the bid and subsequent paper work.

8. Jason proposed and employed technology that better enabled our transactions from across the country. Digital forums allowed for immediate processing of paperwork, which otherwise could have taken days.

Normally, I find people in sales profession suspect; I can't trust their intentions. Jason's charisma, strong communication skills, attention to detail, understanding of our needs, patience with our decision process, application of technology, ability to negotiate, and strong ethics led me to consistently recommend Jason as the only real estate professional worth working with.

Best regards,
Rob
