Brandi makes Maple Valley proud as one of the Best Artists to Remember of the year 2007 according to the Seattle PI. I first saw Brandi on VH 1 and was excited to see this talented singer/song writer from my own town. According to the PI, she's got Columbia Records behind her and has recently been touring with the VH 1's "You Otta Know" Tour. Congratulations Brandi! Click here to watch a video of Brandi's song, "The Story."

Well, even through the controversy of crossing picket lines and snubbing the writer's guild, it seems Jay Leno gets the last laugh, and he found out what I have known for a long time, if you need a chuckle, open up the "Voice of the Valley," where you can read about the theft of a pair of Birkenstocks, a teenager commandeering her mother's debit card, and of course the Maple Valley Donut Hole. Leno remarked that Maple Valley must be small town because it has meetings about "donut holes" and showed the headline in our local weekly paper.
It was funny, but the actual "donut hole" issue... is not. The donut hole is a piece of land owned by the county that is surrounded on every side by the city of Maple Valley. That is why it is refered to as the "donut hole." King County has used it as sort of a gravel pit area. (I created a visual for Jay and others to follow which appears below.) The big problem is that the county has different building standards than the city, and has now chose to sell the property to a big developer (without taking outside offers) in order to build high density housing which would cause an increased demand on the city's infrastructure including schools, emergency services, and other public services by about 30%. This is a huge stretch for a a small community that only incorporated about 10 years ago, and is having a tough time in keeping up with growth as it is.
I haven't found video footage of the headlines just yet, but also appearing on last night's show was Republican candidate Ron Paul, who was snubbed by the Fox News when they excluded him from partcipating in the New Hampshire Republican Debate, two days before the N.H. primaries. I did include that. Ron had some good comments about being "fair and balanced." One thing is for sure, Jay is in good form, even without his writers, I think he is even more relaxed and enjoyable to watch when he is doing his own stuff! (see Paul video below for an exerpt from the show and a little bit of politics on the side.)
