There was an interesting article in the Kansas City Business Journal about how the County Economic Research institute estimates that Johnson County Kansas is set to become the largest populated county in the Kansas City Metro by 2023 (based on projections from the Mid American Regional Council).
If that growth holds true, that is good news for long term housing appreciation in Johnson County. While the growth would obviously be hinged on employment growth... The real key for Johnson County is not losing site of services such as schools, roads, and crime while be able to keep property taxes at reasonable levels. If the county were to lose site of those key elements, all the employment in the world would only make Johnson County a place for great jobs while the surrounding counties would thrive as commuter counties.
Shermans Travel ranks Kansas City the #4 most underrated city in the United States. As someone who was not raised in Kansas City, I can agree with that. Before moving to the Midwest, I (like many East coasters) really did not know how much Kansas City really had to offer.
The US News and world report compiled a list of "America's Most Miserable Airports" and this is one list where it is better to be at the bottom. Fortunately Kansas City International was pretty close to the bottom. It was the 3rd least miserable on the list of 47 major US airports. For the frequent traveler, another good reason to call Kansas City home.
Johnson County Commissioners voted 5-1 in favor of an approximate 8.5 mile land annexation by Overland Park. Overland Park was originally wanting the southern annexation to extend to around 203rd street but received approval for an annexation that extends to around 191st and as far south as around 199th st in parts. The Kansas City Star reports that the annexation granted works out to be about 60% of what Overland Park had originally anticipated.
