Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Series

Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Concert Series
August Performers
Napili Kai Beach Resort, Maui
Wednesdays 7:30 pm

For the past six years, the Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Concert Series has delighted visitors and Kama'aina alike. This August, the series welcomes the following musicians:

August 5: Keoki Kahumoku
August 12: Dennis Kamakahi
August 19: Ledward Kaapana
August 26: Owana Salazar

One of the coolest things about the Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar series is the Talk Story that goes along with the music. It's as if these legends of Hawaiian Music , many of them Grammy winners, are talking to old friends and family. Hearing the inspiration behind the writing or playing of the music is fascinating, and provides a glimpse into Hawaii and its history of which many of us may not otherwise be aware.

Hosted by three time Grammy Winner, George Kahumoku Jr., this is a musical treat that is not to be missed. The producers of The Masters of Slack Key Guitar Concert Series have planned a hiatus. The program series is scheduled to return to weekly performances on December 30, 2009.

The Napili Kai Beach Resort is home to Puna Point, low rise, oceanview and oceanfront condominiums built on a point overlooking Napili Bay. This is one of my all time favorite beaches. A perfect little crescent shaped stretch of white sand, this is the ideal place to spend a sunny day. The Napili Kai's Sea House restaurant is a great place to grab brunch, lunch, pupus or dinner.

Don't you wish you were on Maui?

Well, even if you can't be here on island, you can prepare island dishes with Local Flavors that will transport you back.

This month, I'm pleased to present a recipe from Spago at the Four Seasons in Wailea. Chef Cameron Lewark was kind enough to give us the recipe for his tasty Tempura Kauai Prawns with a Pickled Ginger Vinaigrette and Marinated Cucumbers.

Here's a photo of the sunset to enjoy along with it.

2009 Aloha Team Classic

On the last Tuesday of every month, I join approximately 70 other island women in the Hui Aloha Ladies Luncheon. Organized by one of our community leaders, this luncheon focuses on local non-profit organizations. Women from across the island will announce activities, events, fundraisers, and new organizations, in an effort to increase the exposure of the organization and event. The Luncheon takes place at a different restaurant each month, so that we support our local businesses as well.

One event that any golfers should mark their calender for is the Aloha Team Classic. Sponsored by the Beyond the Rainbow Foundation, the goal of this event is to raise funds to support organizations that help "Maui Youth realize the promise of their future".

The vent will take place from October 18-21, 2009. Participants will golf on three of Maui's finest Golf Courses:
The King Kamehameha Golf Club
The Bay Course
The Plantation Course

The cost is $1500 per player, and $425 for non players. There will be a Welcome Reception with Gifts, A Wine Tasting Dinner, Prizes, and much more! The organizers of the event have made arrangements with a variety of local hotel locations for special rates. For more information, visit www.AlohaTeamClassic.org or call 800-541-7357.

2009 Wine Maker's Dinner

My favorite Maui magazine is Maui No Ka Oi. They have the most informative articles about our island home, covering a vast array of topics from cultural events to impacts of political proposals. The photography is amazing as well-providing glimpses into places you might not otherwise see. In addition, the magazine supports a variety of local businesses, educational centers, and non profit organizations, like the Maui Culinary Academy.

This coming August, Maui No Ka Oi will celebrate Aipono Awards Winning Ko Restaurant, along with the wines of Argentina. Wine expert Charles Fredy and representatives of Sharyn Alexader Vine Connection Collection will join chef Jake Belmonte in a wonderful pairing dinner.

Enjoy Hawaiian plantation-era cuisine at Ko in the Fairmont Kea Lani resort, Wailea on Friday, August 14th at 6pm. Please call (808) 875-4100 to reserve your space.

Maui No Ka Oi is hosting a series of these events. In addition to dinners hosted by some of Maui's best chefs and noted wine experts, these events support the Maui Culinary Academy.

For invitations and updates, join Maui No Ka Oi's email list: info@mauimagazine.net.

The Residences at Kapalua Bay: A Market Update

The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Kapalua Bay: A Market Update

Ritz-Carlton Club and Residences, Kapalua Bay

The Ritz-Carlton Club and Residences, Kapalua Bay opened its doors on May 31, 2009. The property consists of 84 wholly owned residences and 64 fractional residences. Several owners and guests of the Club Residences have already stayed at Maui's newest Luxury Resort property.

The first closings of the wholly owned residences are anticipated later this month. As it's now possible to get a sense of the views and interior space, we are beginning to see an increase in activity in residence sales activity. Today, it was announced today that two of the Residences were put under reservation: 1202 and 2303 are both the three bedroom floorplan with a study. These reservations follow on the heels of 1403 which sold a few weeks ago.

For more information on the current offerings at the Ritz-Carlton Residences, Kapalua Bay or any other Maui property, please don't hesitate to contact me.
