I always seem to get the question, where do people go for fitness if you live in Santa Claus?

The past six months I have made a goal to get in shape and be healthier.   I use a lot of different options that work with my schedule.  As I was running yesterday, it dawned on me that I should write a short blog for people that are researching our area and want to understand the fitness options here in Santa Claus.

The first option and closest is Santa Claus's Parks and Recreation.   For indoor exercising, they have a room at the Community Center with 3 treadmills, 1 stair climber, 4 bikes, and weights.   Cost is $1 per visit.  They currently have a kickboxing class on Tuesday and Thursday night.    Cost is separate.   For outside exercising, they have great trails to run at Yellig Park in Santa Claus which is 1.2 miles long.

We also have the traditional YMCA.  We have one located in Ferdinand, Indiana which is about 15 minutes away from Santa Claus.  They have a lot of equipment, aerobics, sport programs for all ages, child watch, and lots more.  See all the details on their website at http://www.tricountyymca.org/. 

The Dale Community Center is a great option if you want weights and aerobics.  It is about 5 minutes away.  They have a full size basketball court, lots of exercising equipment, aerobic classes, rock climbing wall, and more!  Monthly membership prices are $20.00 for Ages 19-54, $13.00 for Senior Citizens, and $45 a family membership.

Do you like to run?  If so, make use of our wonderful Lincoln State and National Park.  They have tons of trails that run through their beautiful woods and lake.  Click here for a map of the trails.

Finally, if you live in Christmas Lake Village, you will find a lot of walkers and joggers working out and enjoying our rolling hills and beautiful scenery as well.  Also at Holly Park, there is a trail around the park so you can get some exercise while your kiddos play!

Purdue Scholarships for Spencer County Residents

As a Purdue Alumni and use of this scholarship, I thought I would blog this important fact to potential home owners looking at moving into Spencer County.

All residents of Spencer County students are given a scholarship call the Berkshire Scholarship if they attend Purdue University and are from our county. The amounts vary depending on how many students goto Purdue from the county a year. In addition, you are given scholarship funds every year that you attend Purdue upto four years. A mininium GPA is all that is required to keep the scholarship every year. If you do not keep the min. GPA you can loose it and not qualify for it as you continue your education at Purdue.

Thanks to a Spencer County Alumni that set this fund up. I was very thankful for its use and thousands it saved me over the years at Purdue. I thought I would get the message out because it can make a difference in home selection if you have students getting ready to attend college and you are debating if you want to live in Spencer, Dubois, or Perry County.
