This is the round rock in Round Rock Texas!

The round rock in Round Rock, Texas

round rock

You won't find a sign along the road telling you where it's at. But if you're lucky enough to stumble down Chisholm Trail Road, a small two lane street, you'll catch a glimpse of it just beyond the bridge sitting out in the middle of Brushy Creek.

I remember the first time I saw the round rock back in 1985. To me, it looked more like the shape of a mushroom than a round rock. I chuckle to myself at the thought of selling homes in Mushroom, TX and I'm thankful it didn't become that.

Actually, Brushy Creek was the first name given to the small community back in 1851 but it was renamed Round Rock in 1854 by the local postmaster who often fished from the large tabletop limestone-rock. The rock was more unofficially marked an important low-water crossing location for cattle drivers and Indians.

Today the round rock still symbolizes what was once a sleepy little town that gradually grew to a population of over 92,000 in 2007 and recently ranked 7th by CNNMoney.com out the 100 best places to live in the country.... And to think it all started with a round rock.
