Lake Nottely is an absoultely gorgeous lake located in the North Georgia Mountains (Blairsville, GA). Construction of Lake Nottely began on July 17, 1971 and was completed on January 14, 1942. The lake consists of 4,180 acres with a majority of the shoreline being US Forest Service land. It is 20 miles long with 106 miles of shoreline. The average summer water elevation is 1776 (full pool). Nottely is well known as a great fishing destination, especially for those looking to catch striped bass. It's also an excellent place for water skiing, wake boarding, tubing and all types of water activities.
When you have guests, you want them to feel welcome and comfortable (well....most of the time! and you probably don't want to give up your bed either).
So whether you have just enough bedrooms and beds for your immediate family or are prepared to host a whole crowd at any moment, here are some tips for increasing sleep space.
ONE ROOM: Attics or rooms with eaves work great as areas to fill with beds: bunk beds, twin beds, double beds or poster beds. Buildings that are separate from your home can work too, becoming a bunk room that's perfect for kids and their friends. Bunk beds with a full size mattress at the bottom and a single up top can give you flexibility so you could even sleep a family of 3. Colorful blankets and quilts can be used to provide the finishing touch to any bed, but they can look great as decor when not in use. You can hang them on the wall or railing or roll them up and display them in some decorative baskets.
TEMPORARY: Use your den or office as a location for inflatable mattresses and cots. They are much more comfortable than they used to be and can be stored easily when not in use.
HIDE-AWAY BEDS: Got limited space? Try a Murphy or trundle bed. Sleeper sofas and futons work well too, just remember to add some extra support or cushioning.
Sharing Bathrooms too?
Try buying several single sets of towels in different colors so that each guest can have their own color-coded set. Make an "in-use" sign to hang on the door so that there are no accidental walk-ins! You can also try scheduling shower time with a sign-up board and provide a small container for each guest to keep his or her toiletries in.

Did you know that Union County is home of Georgia's Highest Mountain??? Brasstown Bald is 4,784 feet above sea level with panoramic views of four states! It houses a museum and exhibit, picnic areas, a bookstore and walking trails. The views are absolutely stunning! http://fs.fed.us/conf/rec/brb_overview.htm

Vogel State, Georgia's oiginal state park, was built in 1927 and is located just 11 miles south of downtown Blairsville at the base of Blood Mountain in the middle of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Camping Life Magazine listed the park as one of the top 25 public US campgrounds in 2000. The park is built around Lake Trahlyta and offers swimming, paddle boats, fishing, cottages, hiking, camping and pavilions. http://www.gastateparks.org/info/vogel

The Appalachian Trail gives hikers an opportunity to view the Chattahoochee National Forest up close, with elevations up to 4,000 fett. The trail is easily accessible at several locations throughout Union County. Side trails take you to lesser known paths such as Duncan Ridge and the Benton McKaye Trail (where a suspension bridge provides breathtaking views). http://www.appalachiantrail.org
Beauty, relaxation, and natural fun can all be found in the mountains of North Georgia (Blairsville and Blue Ridge, GA). The large variety of outdoor activities lead many visitors to become residents (or at least part-timers) before they have had a chance to explore all of the lakes, rivers and streams in the area.
Many water lovers in the area head for Lake Blue Ridge and Lake Nottely, two of Georgia's most picturesque mountain lakes. Both are man made and controlled by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Lake Nottely is 4,180 acres and Blue Ridge is 3,290 acres. Swimming, boating and fishing on the crystal blue waters are very appealing. Both lakes have an abundance of National Forest land, camping & picnic opportunities, boat ramps and full service marinas. Because so much of the shoreline borders on National Forest, the lakes remain unspoiled by commercial development. Fisherman can enjoy fishing for bass, bream, catfish, crappie and perch. Lake Blue Ridge is the only lake south of the Great Lakes where walleye are caught. Blue Ridge is also known for small mouth bass fishing and Nottely has some of the finest striped bass around.
Those looking for flowing water, don't have to look far. Several area rivers, including the Toccoa offer canoeing and kayaking opportunities. Fast paced whitewater rapids, for the more adventurous are just right down the road on the Ocoee River. The Ocoee was the site of the Olympic white water rafting during the 1996 summer games. Many of the area rivers also offer a trout fisherman's dream. Winding in and out of National Forest land, the rivers are wide enough in most areas that you can cast a line without catching a tree. The streams and rivers are regularly stocked with beautiful rainbow trout.
