STRoke Identification

STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters.....S.T.R.

If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some lives!

During a BBQ, Ingrid stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) . She said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the BBQ.

Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had someone known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be alive today.

PLEASE - It only takes a minute to read this...

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally.

He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

PLEASE remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify and the stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage.

A bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

- S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

- T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE COHERENT SENTENCE (i.e. It is sunny out today)

- R *Ask the person to RAISE BOTH ARMS..

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher..

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is another indication of a stroke.

Not all Real Estate Agents are Created Equal

There are important questions to consider when hiring a real estate agent to sell your property.

Are you a member of the MLS (multiple listing service)?

I am! This allows other member agents to easily search and access information about your home to share with their buyers.

Are you a FULL TIME real estate agent?

I am! Many agents aren't. They ‘dabble' in real estate. This IS my job! I am available everyday to answer questions, show properties and schedule appointments.

Are you a REALTOR?

I am! I agree to conduct my business according to the strict code of ethics of the National Association of Realtors..

Because many buyers come from out of town, does your company have national name recognition?

YES! RE/MAX and their balloon is known world wide. RE/MAX is the #1 Real Estate Franchise in the country.

Does your company have a national advertising campaign?

YES! No other company offers more national advertising than RE/MAX.

How will you market my property?

Multi-level marketing is SO much more than just putting a sign in your yard & putting it on the MLS. I use both traditional means of communication such as direct mail and print advertising along with the latest in internet marketing.

What separates you from other agents?

Above the Crowd' is more than a RE/MAX slogan to me...it's the way I strive to do business everyday. Honest, hardworking and responsive, if that's the kind of real estate professional you need, call me.

Waiting for Spring to List Your Home....DON'T!

Here's why!

Inventory~ How many other sellers will have that same strategy? So come March, April & May, there will be even more competition. SO by listing NOW you avoid that!

Motivated Buyers~ Spring may bring out the shoppers but usually people who are shopping in the winter months are more serious and motivated AND more likely to BUY your home.

Mortgage Rates~ Rates are at 3 year lows and by listing now can take advantage of those who are buying before the rates begin to climb back up.

Buyer Confidence~ People are getting tired of the ‘wait & see' and their confidence in the market is beginning to shift which is increasing buyer traffic. The $7500 first time homebuyer tax credit expires in the spring of 2009 and there are many who are taking advantage of this, waiting until March or April to list and this opportunity just might pass you as a seller by.

Accomplishing your Goals Now ~Wouldn't you rather have your home sold by March or April? By listing now you are giving yourself the opportunity to complete your goals sooner rather than later.

Housing prices in rural America have outperformed those in the cities for past two years and are still relatively stable, according to economist Chad Wilkerson at the Federal Reserve Bank. SO while the national news media has been reporting about the housing doom & gloom they have largely ignored the positive , stable markets in rural American, including Henderson County, TN.

There are a couple of reasons why this is true. One factor is that rural housing prices didn't skyrocket in the ‘boom years' as it did in metro areas. In addition, Wilkerson reports that ‘better credit underwriting standards by rural lenders' may have kept the housing bubble from inflating as fast as other areas. Thus the Henderson County market is avoiding the price correction that is currently under way in many other areas.

Trends lead the Fed economists to conclude that rural home values are unlikely to rise appreciably either but not losing is a big gain in today's market.

With more and more people looking to relocate into the rural markets and looking for the recreation amenities that are abundant in Henderson County it's a great time to buy and sell!

Lender Perserverance and Determination

Last week Jennifer McMackin at First Bank Mortgage was able to close a RD loan on a newly constructed home here in Henderson County. It was a wonderful young couple with great credit purchasing their first home. Recently approved for RD this was Jennifer's first time closing this type loan in this county. It was a challenge and I admit there were times I was ready to give up but Jennifer hung in there and prevailed!

Congratulations to Jennifer and the team at First Bank and THANKS for your determination and for giving area Realtors & Home Buyers more choices in lenders and mortgage products!

If you'd like to speak to Jennifer about your next home loan, you can reach her at jmcmackin@firstbankonline.com
