Proud Lexington Little League Volunteer

It's just about BASEBALL time in TENNESSEE! Saturday, March 1 Lexington Little League has re gistration at Guy B. Amis Park from 10AM -12PM! I proudly serve as the Public Relations Director for the league although my own son is now in high school. With most organized sports leagues especially in a small town, there are often cries of 'politics' but I have never served with a group of people who are more dedicated to the concept of giving children an opportunity to play. In a time when being an 'all star' seems to be in the forefront of most parents minds, this league has given players of all playing abilities an opportunity to learn the game of baseball and be a part of a team.

LEXINGTON LITTLE LEAGUE - A WINNING TRADITION

For over 50 years Lexington Little League has given thousands of 9-12 year old children the opportunity to play youth league baseball regardless of their playing ability and at very limited cost to their families. Once again children in Henderson County can register to play Lexington Little League baseball for only $25.00, a fee that hasn't been increased in decades. This year's registration is March 1 from 10am -12pm and March 3 from 4pm to 6pm at the Guy B. Amis Park Office.

Lexington Little League has a host of dedicated volunteers, coaches and board members that work diligently to serve the best interest of the children that play in this league. Our mission is to give any child who has a desire to play baseball the opportunity to do so. That is the reason that the league continues to support the instructional minor league while other organizations have elected to eliminate these type leagues only allowing the best players an opportunity to play. Our dual league system has served us well with many minor league players honing their baseball skills, earning spots on one of the Lexington Major League teams and for several, the chance to play in the post season on an All Star team.

The Lexington Little League Board of Directors voted years ago that it was in the best interest of our league and it's players to continue fielding teams with players ages 9-12. This gives younger players time to develop and practice with older more skilled players. Also the addition of 9-10 year old only games on Saturdays has given the younger players an opportunity for additional playing time.

Lexington Little League has a long standing tradition of success and a statewide reputation for producing championship teams annually. During the last 15 years, Lexington Little League has sent 32 teams to the state tournament and has produced 4 state champions. Our current board of directors has over 50 years experience working for the Lexington Little League organization and our team managers have over a 100 years combined managing expertise.

Natchez Trace State Park...Henderson County Treasure!

Do you live with a real treasure that you just take for granted? NO I'm not talking about your significant other. I am referring to a wonderful jewel in your community that you just overlook, or just plain forget about. Yesterday I had the opportunity to drive thru one of my local gems...Natchez Trace State Park.

Natchez Trace State Park is named for the famous "Natchez to Nashville" highway, an important w ilderness road during the early 18th century. A western spur of The Trace ran through a portion of what is now the park.

With the many acres of scenic woodlands, the park includes four lakes, a swimming beach, a 47 room resort inn and restaurant complex, cabins, group lodge, camping areas, picnicking sites, playgrounds, a ball field, a regulation pistol firing range, picturesque hiking trails, a wrangler camp, 250 miles of horse riding trails, a park store, and archery range. Located at I-40, exit 116, this area is composed of a State Park, State Forest and a WMA with a total of 48,000 acres.

Natchez Trace State Park offers a variety of accommodation options. The park has a 47-unit lodge with single, double and suite accommodations, 17 cabins and 10 villas fully equipped for housekeeping, a group lodge, 208 campsites and 5 air conditioned camping cabins. Backcountry camping and wrangler camping are also available.

There's a lot to do and see at Natchez Trace State Park! Enjoy a picnic at one of the picnic areas, or reserve a picnic pavilion for your family reunion or company picnic. A newly renovated museum is located within Park Headquarters. Exhibits include local and park history as well as a nature center featuring a wildlife viewing area, interactive computer and aquarium. Natchez Trace State Park also offers a variety of natural, historic, recreational, and cultural programs. Other activities to enjoy at the park include boating, archery, basketball, horseshoes, firing range, softball, tennis, volleyball, playgrounds and horseback riding.
