We piled the Carson/Marr Families into the vehicles and headed to Monterey, VA last Sunday, March 22, 2009! What Fun! Our son, Brett, remembered when we used to go about 25 years ago when he was around 8 and Beth Anne was 2 (she did not remember!) and he wanted to take Brantley, my granddaughter so we thought - ROAD TRIP!!
The Highland County Maple Festival is 51 years old and a great experience for all ages! The festival features activities in Monterey, McDowell, Blue Grass, Hightown, and of course The Sugar Tour!
We started our day in Monterey, VA - Brett & Sallie stood in line for the "dounuts" - cooked by the Ruritian Club while we took the 2 kids on a tour of the Main Street Vendors! What Fun!

MONTEREY, VA - A BEAUTIFUL DAY!!!
We decided not to stand in line for the Buckwheat Pancakes w/Maple Syrup because with a 3-year old and a 1-year old we might have had issues - although it would probably been the 2 Daddies and the GrandDaddy that would have been the problem! We went to the Highland Inn for Brunch that gave us Buckwheat Pancakes w/local Maple Syrup, local Trout, and Ham Crousiants! Delicious and no lines - the Highland Inn is a throw back to old time Southern Hospitality!!

Then it was off on "The Sugar Tour" - where we went to Puffenbarger's Sugar Orchard. This is where we went when our kids were little and Brett wanted to go back - what we found was amazing! Here are our pictures but you will have to check my next blog on Puffenbarger's Sugar Orchard to read their story - truely a wonderful story of perserverience and the value of friends helping their neighbors.

TIMBER LAKE - Starting to Show off for Spring 2009!!
If you read my blogs, you already know I love where I live, my neighbors/best friends and my neighborhood fun! Well, here we go - Spring is Springing and we are ready!

You will notice in the backgrounds the different types of houses we have on our Lake - built as summer homes over the years many like ours, were built with whatever the First Owners could salvage from the local building suppliers or from other building sites (legal of course).

You will notice we don't pay much attention to age here - multi-generational! Will drives all of our boats because he loves to and we're really lazy! Where else can a 3 year old (our Brantley) drive a boat safely and a year old (Brylan) steer the boat!
Spring Time on Timber Lake brings out all of God's Creatures! Us of course but also the beavers, the muskrat, the ducks (well you know what they are doing), the geese (ugh), the coots, the grebs, the great blue heron, hawks, turtles and of course the fish and fisherman - ahhhhh - what a life!!!

FOR FEBRUARY 2009
•· There are 1925 Homes listed for sale today in the Lynchburg Multiple Listing System.
•· We closed 108 Homes in February 2009 (we closed 183 in February 2008)
•· The current Absorption Rate is 175.6 homes.
•· We have a 10.96 month supply of homes on the market.
Our Sales numbers are gradually increasing with our lowest mark coming in January 2009 - this makes sense since that would have been for houses going under contract from the end of October through mid December 2008.
It continues to be a buyers market with Days on the Market averaging 158 and the Sale to List price coming in at 95.5%. The houses are staying on the market longer but they are selling at the normal Lynchburg percentage rate for list to sale price.

We got about 10 inches of snow which for the Central VA area almost qualifies as a blizzard!

We have lived on Timberlake for over 20 years! It's so nice to come home at the end of a busy day and be able to relax sitting on our porch by the fire, on the dock looking out over the lake or taking a float on our Pontoon Boat
Timberlake is a wonderful retreat only minutes from Lynchburg, 20 minutes to Bedford and 40 minutes to Roanoke. Located on 460W - Timberlake Road - the location is convenient and its a great community.
