The annual Henderson Christmas parade has come and gone. This was my first and hopefully, not my last. As a team, the RE/MAX associates at RE/MAX Superior, REALTORS came up with a theme in late November: Homes for the Holidays. Now, I've never been a part of a float creation team before. I wasn't one of the elite at my high school that was asked to participate in building the class float or being in the parade. Needless to say, I was REALLY excited about this project! We are extremely lucky that Kelly Estes, the better half of one of our REALTORS, is extremely creative and talented. She figured out how to make the little houses and trees out of cardboard boxes and directed the artistically challenged (me) in the proper painting technique for the roofs of the homes. (No, Kathy DON'T hold the can in one place. Back and forth, back and forth, etc) LOL! It was great fun and worth the cold that I and others had the following week after our "craft day".

The day before the parade, we assembled and put the finishing touches on the float. I have to say it was a neat float. Surely we would get some kind of placement right? Well, we WON!!! 1st place in the corporate division!! Our first year in Henderson, our first float AND first prize! We were all so excited: giving each other high-5's and hugs. Then the parade actually started. What a great time! Even though is was very cold (20's) and we were all bundled up like eskimo's it was a blast. As you can see, we are all very proud of our float and have even talked about a bigger and better float next year!!

I've been thinking about my first blog for a while now, trying to figure out a topic. It came to me this morning as I sat out on my deck, with my jacket and hat on watching my neighbors corral a few horses. I had offered to help, but they had everything under control. You see, I am new to the Henderson, KY area. My husband and I moved here in February of this year and all of our friends and family are in Northern Indiana. So, we are getting to know people, learning about the area and trying new things.
One of the reasons we like living here in Henderson is the people. Moving day was not easy for us. One of our moving trucks slid off the driveway and blocked traffic on our country road for almost 2 hours. Thank goodness a neighbor brought a tractor and pulled us out. That's how neighbor's are around here and that's what we love. We are from a small, close-knit community comprised of farmers, factory workers and small business owners and we help each other out. That is what I love about small communities.
I am so glad that I was invited to AR. It's another community of people helping each other out. I've read a lot of blog's and profiles and really gained some great information. I want to thank all of you for the information, insight and inspiration you have provided me, and I hope that I can return the favor.
One fun thing I do each week is send my email pals a smile. I'm a dog lover and get tons of emails with cute pictures of dogs and other animals. I call it my weekly smile. It may seem like a small, silly thing to do, but if I make one person smile or brighten someone's day, I'm happy. The funny thing is, when you do something just for the joy it brings someone else, that joy comes back to you. I can't count the times that I've sent out a cute and fun email and a couple of days later, when I need it most, I get a reply saying "thank you". That small "thank you" brightens my day and refreshes my spirit. I don't expect a return, yet, it seems like it happens when I least expect it and need it most.
So, in closing, I urge all of you to "send a smile" to your friends, co-workers, clients, and family. You may find that you get a few back!
