I still remember when I first arrived in Rancho Bernardo, San Diego 11 years ago house hunting because my husband found a new job and we had to relocate to San Diego from Northern California. From the freeway, I saw this picturesque town with red roofs and trees. I immediately was excited about the move.
Rancho Bernardo is a small town, in the northern part of the city of San Diego. It is about 20 miles east from the beaches. You are in the suburbs, but you are never 20 minutes away from everywhere.
It is beautifully planned with greeneries everywhere. The downtown(one street) is designed so that all the commercial stuff are hidden from the street. Mind you, we have all the amenities here in downtown, different churches, a wonderful hospital(my son was born there), many banks, investment firms, supermarkets, great restaurants, hotels, even two, yes, two Starbucks. Oh we must not forget the golf courses, three of them in this little town!
The town started out a retirement paradise, and it's still is, but it has become a fabulous town to raise kids. Each subdivisions have their own community centers that come equipped with swimming pools, tennis courts, exercise rooms, etc. And the fees are nominal and most areas do not have mello roos.(compare with other newer master plan neighborhoods in San Diego where they pay a ridiculous amount of mello roos)
It is in the award-winning Poway school district which makes it a very desirable place for families.
We weren't thinking about schools when we moved here 11 years ago(my son is 7), but we loved the fact that our house is only less than 1 mile from my husband's work. The area is home to a bunch of companies such as Hewlitt Packard, Sony, Cymer, etc.
The people here are absolutely fabulous! They are friendly, curteous, patient. My neighbors are all wonderful. We have regular block parties.
We have been here 11 years now, and we would never think of leaving! We have great schools, our church is only minutes from our house, my son's best friends live next door...It is just a wonderful place to live!!
