Before you buy a car from Stanley Glauser in Sarasota, you should know what you are getting into.
I found him to be very fair, and here's why. I test drove a car from his lot. While in the test drive, a check engine light came on. As I did not want to be responsible for ruining his car, I took it into a Lexus dealership, which I had planned to do anyway. When I told him the light came on he said, "OK just bring it back, but do you know what an oxygen sensor is?" I told him I did not, but I liked the car until the light came on so I would still take it to the dealer.
The dealership did the testing and review of the car. They did find the things wrong with the car. They did note the oxygen sensor as Mr. Glauser had indicated. He gave me what I thought was a fair price for the car, and I bought it, knowing it needed a few things in time.
Three days after I bought it, it overheated. I took it to my mechanic who said, without really looking at it, that it was a head gasket problem, that the heads were probably warped, and it probably needed a new engine a very expensive repair. I called Stanley Glauser again, knowing that it was my problem, not his. He did not hesitate. He said if I would pay for the tow, he would refund my money. I did. He did. I was back in a rental car.
A few days went by and I still did not find a car, but I liked the Lexus. I called him to see if he still had it. He said he did, that it was repaired for less than two hundered dollars due to a power steering pump leak. The dripping disrupted the fan which caused the overheating. This potential was also noted by the Lexus inspection, and was a repair they suggested would not need to be done for awhile. So, again, an independent verification confirmed Stanley's word. In addition, he invited me to speak with the mechanic who did the repair. He confirmed. I said if it was repaired I would buy the car. Again, I bought the same car.
It has now been three months with this car, and it has been great, despite what MY mechanic had said, and he only looked at the bubbles in the radiator overflow, not hooking it up or hoisting it up--my mechanic did not really look at it.
