San Bruno, Ca. is a Great Place To Live!

San Bruno house in the "Belle Air" neighborhood $399,000

San Bruno, Ca is an affordable and charming city on the San Mateo peninsula. Snuggled on a long. wide slope between San Francisco and Burlingame, the weather is usually in the 60's with a little wind and hardly ever any fog!

We have the best public schools around, as well! As the PTA President of Allen Elementary School, I can give first hand testimonials, as I meet with the other PTA presidents monthly. We are a close knit bunch with all the same goals in mind, to keep our San Bruno children in the best learning environment possible! San Bruno parents really care about their city! Just ask the San Bruno Mother's Club!

Summertime brings with it a whole bunch of fun things to do in San Bruno! Beginning in May, the San Bruno Chamber of Commerce puts on the San Bruno Farmer's Market every Sunday from 9:00-200 pm on San Mateo Ave. at Jenevein Ave.

San Bruno''s famous outdoor swimming pool in San Bruno Park opens to the public on June 1st with lessons for all ages! San Bruno Park is filled with people watching baseball on 3 diamonds all summer long. There are a lot of picnic areas, tennis courts, basketball courts and a rec reation center with classes buzzing every day! I can't wait until August when we start our "Concerts in the Park" series!

One of San Bruno's main events of the year is the anual Posy Parade which started in 1941. This parade is put on by the San Bruno Lions Club and celebrates the children in our community! There are floats, marching bands, baseball teams, cheer clubs, service clubs, and a Posy Parade Princess who rides on a float with her court. Nobody over the age of 7, please! SO cute!

People flock to San Bruno for other reasons, too, such as our shopping mall, the Shops at Tanforan, Bayhill Shopping Center next to YouTube, Inc., awesome restaurants and the airport!

Real estate inventory is always in demand here because of all the wonderful things San Bruno has to offer. We have a variety of small affordable homes to large, brand new homes to choose from. We also have two big condominium complexes, Shelter Creek and Peninsula Place. Most recently we have the new Archstone Apartments across the street from the Shops at Tanforan that have the most beautiful rentals you have ever seen!

3 BR 2BA home in Downtown San Bruno $524,950

As you can tell, I am quite partial to San Bruno as I live AND work here! Everything I need is within walking distance and I should really do just that, WALK..but I don't, usually.

If you are thinking about moving here and you are still not quite convinced, let me know and I can send you some links, get you some testamonials, or even show you around.

Where To Eat In San Bruno?

don pico's

Ok, so I love to help people buy and sell houses but still I need to eat! I LOVE to eat and I love to cook! I love to dine out and I love family and friend gatherings at home over a large home cooked meal. Since I live and work in San Bruno, I like to dine locally. Sometimes I go to San Francisco, my hometown, but most of the time, when we have the opportunity to dine out, we go local!

A few of my favorite places are Don Pico's for Mexican fine dining, La Paloma Taqueria, Hon Lin for Chinese, Sushi House, Famous Johnny's for pizza and beer, Amma's Kitchen for Indian, and the West Coast Cafe for Italian. All of these places are walking distance from my house.

Living in San Bruno is really super convenient. From my house, I can walk to the Mexican market, the dry cleaners, the library, and the corner grocery store. Not to mention I can walk to my kids' school, our friends' houses on Friday nights for "family fun nights", and my office, if I am so inclined. I always drive and it's just 6 blocks away!

I love Don Pico's a lot! I mean a lot lot! My favorite dish is the crab enchiladas with green sauce made with "real" crab! I could live on the chips and salsa. I love spicy salsa with good flavor! I also love the ambiance at Don Pico's. It's a warm, comfortable room with a lot of traditional Mexican decorations and some impressive ones, too! My favorite being a big framed picture of Frida Khalo! The booths are from Original Joe's on Powell Street in San Francisco! The proprieter is Isaac Mejia. He's great! He is welcoming, enthusiastic about his food, and keeps his menu delicious and interesting. He's currently the president of the San Bruno Lion's Club. His sisters help at the restaraunt, too. They are fantastic! On Friday and Saturday nights there is a live guitar player/singer. It's just awesome!

San Bruno, Ca. Real Estate "Shake Up" 2010!

112 Georgia Ave. San Bruno, Ca. $419,000

So far, in 2010, San Bruno real estate inventory is low making it a great new environment for homeowners who have been thinking of selling! Currently there are only 30 homes for sale ranging from $299,000 for a small one bedroom home to $1,000,000 brand spanking new homes in a new developement! Md range is about $550,000-$600,000.

With interest rates still teetering between 5 and 6%, home buyers are out in full force looking for good deals before the rates hike up!

What we are seeing is pretty quick sales of homes in the lower and mid ranges while the high end homes are taking awhile. They are selling though! It took quite a few months but the new homes in the Skycrest Develoment next to Lunardi's have all sold! One most recently at $918,000!

802 Skycrest Dr. SOLD $918,000

FHA loans are popular with a low amount of 3.5% down but many homebuyers are purchasing with 10-20% down that has been saved or come from equity lines on a home meaning that many of our buyers these days are move up buyers who have managed to build equity in their first homes! That's great news!

The competition in the low and mid ranges are still bank owned homes and short sales but there are some regular sales out there amongst them!

As I walk the neighborhoods placing neighborhood newsletters and notepads on people's doorsteps, I notice that most people are staying put. People who own homes or rent them for that matter like where they live here in San Bruno and don't plan on selling anytime in the near future unless a fantastic job opportunity comes along, a new family grows out of a small home, or an senior downsizes. I don't blame them. I live here, too, and I enjoy my neighborhood in Huntington Park. I like that I am walking distance to everything, even though I choose to drive. I imagine that's how a lot of people feel.

At this point of my life with my kids in elementary school and taking part in all that San Bruno Park and Rec has to offer, I am here as a San Bruno neighborhood resource. If you want to know what's going on in the park, Chamber of Commerce, real estate, or anything else, chances are I can help you. I also help people buy and sell houses in San Bruno and other parts of the peninsula. Please visit my website and check out my videos at: www.KarinCunningham.com

San Bruno Concerts in the Park 2009

San Bruno concerts in the park

Oh boy! I am so excited! San Bruno Park puts on concerts every Friday in August starting at 6:00 pm

For the last two summers I made homemade gourmet popcorn and put them in sandwhich bags for my kids to sell for .50 cents each. They were so darn cute! My 4 year old daughter carried her metal pail full of popcorn and my 8 year old son collected the money! I have pictures somewhere that I need to find and post!

Anyways, this year's 2009 schedule looks like this:

Aug 7th- Livewire (Dance Party Band)

Aug 14- Unauthorized Rolling Stones (Tribute Band)

Aug 21- Cocktail Monkeys (Classic Rock, Pop, Variety)

Aug 28 Dave Crimmen (50's Rock n Roll)

Be sure to come and if you see me or my kids selling popcorn, tell us you read our blog! Thanks!

Lee Ginsburg-"San Bruno residential and investment specialist!"

Lee Ginsburg and I worked a booth at the San Bruno Farmer's Market last Sunday and had such a blast! We are always trying to think of ways to promote our buyers and sellers and when we heard that the San Bruno Chamber of Commerce was offering booths to promote businesses, we thought it was a great idea for us! Since our office, Prudential California Realty, is in San Bruno, I live in San Bruno, I do a good portion of my business in San Bruno, not to mention my kids go to school and play sports here, I knew a good amount of people that walked by! It was a really great experience!

Peach Girls!

Peach Girls!

It was also great meeting the farmers and workers at the Farmer's Market! I found out how the different farms work and promote themselves. I learned which fruit and vegetables were in season like tomatoes are best in the springtime because in the summer they are quite ripe! Hierloom tomatoes, my favorite, are expensive for the growers therefore they are more expensive for the consumer. They are quite a specialty! Blueberries, peaches and plums are ready to go right NOW!

"Oh my gosh! The BEST blueberries in town!"

The San Bruno Farmer's Market is going on every Sunday 10-2 pm through October! Check it out! I hope to see you there!
