Lexington Ga is a quiet little town about 20 minutes outside of Athens along U.S. Highway 78. Incorporated in 1806, Lexington is the county seat of Oglethorpe County, GA and was named after the town in Massachussetts where "the shots heard 'round the world" were fired.

The courthouse is the oldest of the 15 remaining Romanesque Revival architecture courthouses in the state and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On the courthouse grounds the Oglethorpe County Civil War Veteran's and the Oglethorpe County Veteran's Memorials are located.
The town still has many of the old buildings along the highway. Some of these are antique shops which provide a pleasant couple of hours diversion searching through all of the old treasures.
There is an unguided walking tour of Lexington that you can take. It will guide you by many of the old buildings as well as the old Lexington Presbyterian Cemetary. In 2008, the town population was 231 people

So, if you want a pleasant little diversion from the activities in and around Athens, or for a backroad trip to Augusta, drive to or through Lexington. You just might enjoy yourself!
