Today I attended a CRS class in Morehead City, NC - "Going Green" - taught by Mark Given. (See my earlier blog - Going Green in Morehead City) One thing he stressed to us was now that "Green" was upper most in our awareness our brain's reticular activating system would start noticing articles, logos, and other things "green."

Mark was right on. When I got home today I opened my mail box and there was a "Real Goods" catalog with Ed Begley's picture on it headlining, living with solar and filled with "green" products. A second catalog right under it was Gaiam Living - bright ideas for green living, make every day earth day.

The CRS class materials give an agent good tools to strart marketing green and getting a head start on the focus of the future - GREEN. Unlike forclosures, short sales and other short term industry cycles or trends - GREEN - is here to stay.
This is a great one day course for anyone who wants some good ideas on how to start being a greener agent, greening up your communications, finding your green clients, great resources on green products, websites for green professionals and resources plus lots of brainstorming sessions with fellow agents on what would work in your market.
I highly recommend this CRS elective. if you have the chance to take it you will go home inspired and ready for action!
Thanks Mark.
GOING GREEN! Mark Given is here in Morehead City NC today teaching the CRS course that he wrote, Going Green. We are having fun coming up with marketing ideas for implementing green marketing. Some neat ideas from this morning: green website, green closing gifts, green recipies, offer classes to seniors to learn email so they are more green, etc.

After lunch break we are going to put together a list of Green Professionals!
If you get the chance it's a great course for learning how to make money with and market for the upcoming Green Revolution!

Delay that order? |

The North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association also known as the "Beach Plan" has proposed a 15% - 25% increase its rates for wind and hail policies and full peril policies for coastal properties. In this current environment of economic downturn many of the communities are banning together to petition a delay of that order. This could impact the Crystal Coast in the next few months. Sen. Julia Boseman introduced a bill in the N.C. General Assembly Wednesday, January 28th, 2009 that would put a temporary stay on increases in deductibles and rates on homeowners and wind and hail insurance covered by the Beach Plan. The stay would be to May 1, 2011, Boseman, D-New Hanover, said Tuesday. “We have to do what we can do in tough economic times to keep insurance affordable,” she said, adding that the increases are “completely unreasonable.” Dare County and the Town of Nags Head have been leading the way to appeal these rate hikes. Other coastal towns are joining in on the efforts including Emerald Isle. http://www.emeraldisle-nc.org/EmeraldTidings/2009/021809issue.htm

| Fire at the office!
Riding up to your real estate office and seeing a fire truck parked out front will most certainly bring a sick feeling to your stomach. No, this did not happen to me, but it did happen today in Emerald Isle, NC. My husband, Henry, woke before me today and went to the corner to get a the Raleigh News & Observer Sunday paper. He walked into the kitchen saying the Wine Merchant had caught on fire sometime during the night and that the building was still smoking and the fire trucks from several districts were still there. My first thought was of the local real estate office that houses in the same building. "What about Watson & Matthews?," I asked. Their door was open and there was smoke coming out and there was some damage, but I don't know how much. I quickly thought of our office. We just finished the year end/beginning clean out and took several boxes to the recycling center with old homes magazines, old real estate magazines and several bags of shredded documents, but what about all the files and papers that we deemed important? They are in our office vulnerable to fire. Do we have any back up copies? Do we have back up of our electronic data?

| Yes, we do have a policy to back up our office computer files. We have an 500 Gigabyte external drive that we use for back up on a regular basis. However we do not always take it "OFF PREMISES."
That and other office policies and procedures will be getting a check up this week to find areas need strengthening in case of fire. What would you do in case of fire? |

| We at Green Key offer our heartfelt concerns and support in this time of strife for Watson & Matthews agency and their brokers. |
