This weekend the big Wilmington Battleship Fireworks will take on Saturday over the Cape Fear River. It is the most glorious 4th celebration with fireworks launched from the battleship and all the folks lined up along the river walk to catch the excitement. There are street vendors with food and drinks all along the streets.

Carolina Beach will have its boardwalk celebration and fireworks Friday July 3. The amusement park will have its rides running so it will be fun for kids and older kids too.

The town of Southport is expecting 40,000 visitors for their 4th of July celebration. They have bands, street festival, craft fairs, bands and all kinds of things to do and see.

LOOKOUT FOR THE SNEAK ATTACK...

Police say that the gang usually is comprised of four members, one adult and three younger ones.While the three younger ones, all appearing sweet and innocent, divert their 'mark' (or intended target) with a show of friendliness , the fourth -- the eldest -- sneaks in from behind the person's back to expertly rifle through his or her pocket or purse for any valuables. Be on the alert!! This recent attack was "shot"...

This weekend there is the tour of Art Galleries in downtown Wilmington. All the galleries are open for evening viewing and there is a scavenger hunt to follow for Wilmington folks. Head downtown to see.

The Quilters by the Sea will entertain their 27th Annual Quilt show at Temple Baptist Church Activity Center on George Anderson Dr in Wilmington. OVer 150 quilts will be on hand and ther will be ongoing quilting demonstrations. This is Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Admission is $5.00.

The Sunday night movie at Carolina Beach lake is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. IT starts at 8:45 pm.

This weekend at Carolina Beach on Sunday the Tales of Desperaux will be shown by the Lake. The movie starts at 8 pm.

On Saturday Blue Moon Gift shops on Racine Drive will have a fundraiser for the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital from 2pm to 5 pm. All proceeds from a raffle will be given to the hospital which had its banner year with 54 turtles in rehabilitation.

On Saturday in Burgaw, NC just north of Wilmington will be the Blueberry Festival. Tens of thousands enjoy the berry frosts, ice cream,berry cobbler, crafts, antiques and all sorts of foods. It is held in the center of town in Burgaw.

On Sunday the Sunday Scene will take place riverfront in Wilmington. There will be music, crafts and food from 4pm. to 8 pm.

Also the Broadway Hit Rent is playing at Thalian Hall. This is the last weekend for the show. I can't wait to go...

• There are also movies at the lake every Sunday night and Fireworks on Thursday nights.
• This is the 4th Gay Pride week in Wilmington with events scheduled all weekend. They include a street fair, parade and concert with the famous Ru Paul performing at the Hilton Inn downtown.
• There is also the farmers market downtown on the Riverfront on Saturday.
• At Carolina Beach a former Village people singer will perform on the Winner Boat Cruise to promote prevention of HIV.

Lots to do including beaching it, boating, surfing and sunning....
