is located with Northern Hillsborough County, & S Central Pasco County, Florida. The population was 17,081 at the 2000 census.

Lutz was rated in the 2004 list of the 100 Best Places/Cities to Live in the United States by MSN.com.

Demographics
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 17,081 people, 6,314 households, and 4,767 families residing in the community. The population density was 795.6 people per square mile (307.2/km²). There were 6,596 housing units at an average density of 307.2/sq mi (118.6/km²). The racial makeup of the community was 92.47% White, 3.00% Black, 0.30% Native American, 1.43% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.27% from other races, and 1.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.86% of the population.

There were 6,314 households out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.1% were married couples living together, 7.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.5% were non-families. 17.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.06.

In the community the population was spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 31.0% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.0 males.

The median income for a household in the community was $60,278, and the median income for a family was $68,413. Males had a median income of $49,320 versus $33,004 for females. The per capita income for the community was $28,446. About 3.9% of families and 6.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.9% of those under age 18 and 6.6% of those age 65 or over.

QUICK History on the Lutz area:  

Lutz began with the construction of a small train depot on the Tampa Northern Railroad which carried materials from Tampa to Brooksville. It was named "Lutz Station" by William Paul Lutz, an engineer on the Tampa Northern Railroad. The area surrounding the depot officially became known as 'Lutz' when the U.S. Postal Service authorized a post office. The first post office was a 7-square-foot (0.65 m²) building on a lot south of the depot. George Sibthorpe, the first postmaster of Lutz, moved the post office to his realty office. In 1914, the post office was again moved to inside the train depot. As people moved to the rural community from Tampa, the Lutz area continued to grow until it no longer depended on the "Lutz Junction", which was demolished in the late 1960s. In 2000, a replica of the depot was rebuilt in the approximate location, which is now at the intersection of Lutz-Lake Fern Rd. and US Highway 41. The post office's structure is still in the same place today, although it is now an art gallery. A public library is located behind the train depot replica. This area is known affectionately as "Beautiful Downtown Lutz".

Lutz was also used as a major filming location in the movie Edward Scissorhands, filmed on Tinsmith Circle, in Carpenters Run. You can even find a Thank you in the Rolling credits at the end of the movie.

Yesterday, I had the chance meet our local congressman for serving Florida's Ninth District. Him and his assistant were there and they spent some time talking about what they do as part of the U.S. House of Representatives, a little bit about the changes coming to our industry in October, but most importantly...

He was so humanly !

The reason why I say this is because in the past, MOST politians come into a group of people, they talk ALL ABOUT themselves, and they are there ONLY for the purposes or RE ELECTION. I remember when Charlie Christ was the State of Florida Attorney General, he visited a GTAR event and was in and out so fast! He was supposed to be talking about "Fraud in our Industry" yet it seemed as thought that part of his speech was maybe a paragraph, the rest was all about re-electing him, he didn't stick around very long.

One of the main things I thought was so impressive was the fact that when he talked he didn't sound like your A-Typical Politician. Unfortunately, GENUINE is just not a description that anyone normally uses to talk about a politician.

He also talked a lot about how they can HELP others in a time of need. They have funds set aside to help people that have issues or need some temporary assistance. They also made it clear that they do more than just vote on legislative issues. They were very inviting and stated that they have a few local offices where Gus Bilirakis and his team can assist you with questions or problems with Federal Agencies such as Veterans Affairs, Education, Medicare, Social Security, Small Business Administration, IRS and many others.

You can also sign up for their FREE E-Newsletter to keep current on current affairs. They also have the ability to bring people to attend one of the nations service academies, you can get more info on their website. If you want to go to Washington D.C.m their office can assist you in arranging a tour of the U.S. Capitol, and other area's of interest, including the White House! But Be prepared, because after 9-11, it could take several months to get cleared with security.
