Looks like another Solar Plant on our Horizon

Mohave Sun Power, LLC has announced plans to build a 340-megawatt solar concentrating plant 27 miles north of Kingman.

Planned to be one of the largest projects of its type in the world, it will use the same parabolic trough technology with m olten salt storage as the Albiasa Plant previously announced.

Along with the plant proposed for White Hills, this is the 4th project to plan relocation to Mohave County!

Although there is some concern about water useage for these projects, I am seriously hoping for some give & take on the part of local residents considering the need to promote development and job creation in the county.

Summer is coming...What to do with the kids!!!

Ground Breaking for New Hospice in Kingman

Kingman Regional Medical Center Foundation has just broken ground on the Joan and Diana Hospice Home. After years of fundraising the much needed home is a reality. Located at 812 Airway Avenue, the Hospice butterflyhome will provide a place for those who are terminally ill and do not have a caregiver or live too far out of town for at home hospice service.

This is a much needed service for our area, please offer them your support!

Greening up the Desert!

Mohave County Planning and Zoning has another solar power plant on the horizon. Smaller than the first, the Comission will consider a minor amendment to the County General Plan, the Yucca Area Plan and a rezoning request for Havasu Solar Electiric to construct the site.

The farm will sit on 17.7 acres of property east of Interstate 40 and north of Boriana Mine Road near Yucca.

Along the same line, it looks like the County is in discussion to amend the General Plan to allow more renewable energy projects to occur!

Getting Ready for Memorial Day Camping?? Think Safety!!

With the Memorial Day holiday weekend coming up, many people are making their first camping or exploring trip of the year on public lands in Northern Arizona. It's time to think safety.

"Given the really hot weather we've had recently, a lot of folks are headed to higher and cooler elevations this weekend," said Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Kingman recreation planner Len Marceau. "BLM's Wild Cow Springs, Windy Point, Packsaddle, and Burro Creek Campgrounds are popular weekend escapes. They are first-come, first-served and range from no fee to $10 per site per night depending on which campground."Camping signs

Be careful with campfires, never leave one unattended, and make sure campfires are dead out any time they leave the campsite. Check with your local county, state, or federal land management agency for any fire restrictions before you head out.

Off -highway vehicles need to stay on existing roads and trails - cross country travel is not allowed. Bring your own firewood and most importantly take plenty of water.

"If people are hiking or climbing around the hills, they should always listen and watch where they step and put their hands - there are creatures who bite and sting. Be aware of your surroundings. We want folks to enjoy their weekend in Arizona's great outdoors," Marceau concluded.

For more information about camping opportunities, call the BLM Kingman Field Office at 928-718-3700.
