What Came First, The Name Or The Dog??

Our family is going to be welcoming a new member soon, a little bullmastiff puppy, most likely a girl. We've wanted a dog for quite some time but wanted to wait until we had all the kids we wanted so the dog would know what the family unit was. We also wanted to have a bigger back yard and preferably fenced in too.

Now all the pieces seem to be in place. We're done with the kiddos (if I get pregnant because I said I'm done with kids on AR then I'm selling AR juice to fertility clinics!)

and we have the fenced in back yard...

At first my husband wanted a Rottweiler and that just scared me to death. Everyone we talked to that had them said they are the biggest sweethearts and you just need to get them trained but that bark really got to me. At the same time he said he'd also get a Dachshund and I don't know why I said no to that because that would be my last time I had the chance to get a small dog.

I was able to push off getting a dog because I told him I wanted to be done with having children so the dog knew what the family unit was. So once the twins were born we knew we were done. And now that the twins are getting easier the dog conversation came back up. So we started talking about breeds.

The first breed my husband brought up was a Boxer. After doing the research on the breed I was ok with them. The only point that semi-bothered me was the high energy part. We're not high energy. The kids are high energy and that's where our energy goes. And since our kids are not old enough to be left alone with a Boxer and properly exercise them I was apprehensive.

Nevertheless, we started looking into breeders and rescues. I was stunned at the prices the breeders were charging and what they go through to keep the breed going with good dogs. They have sperm banks! After talking to breeders I decided we were going with a rescue and get a puppy.

I guess my husband didn't like this idea because he soon came up with getting a Bullmastiff. When I started researching the breed I totally fell in love! totally! They just look more snuggly than the boxer and I really wanted more of a snuggly dog than one that looked strong and lean like the boxer.

So back to researching the breeders and the rescues. I really couldn't find any rescues nearby that had puppies but I found a breeder. I was worried because the breeder lives near an area that is known for it's puppy mills. But after I talked with her I knew she didn't run a mill and felt very comfortable with her.

So here are the puppies!

We want a female but the male pup on his back cracks us up!

Here's the mom. She a red fawn.

We get to visit the pups on 2/14 and pick ours up on 2/28. So now we're thinking of names..... My 6 yr old son likes Jasmin, I like honey and my husband likes xena. But I wonder, should we get the dog home and feel out the personality before we name her? What comes first?

I would love to know what you think we should name the dog!!!!

Tredyffrin-Easttown School District Home Buying and Selling

If you are planning on buying or selling a home in the Tredyffrin-Easttown School District here are the facts.

* Data includes all single family homes and townhomes from December 2006 to December 2008. *

Fact#1: The median sales price is unchanged from December 2006.

The median sales price in December 2006 and December 2008 was $575,000.

Fact#2: The number of homes for sale has gone down 43%, the number of homes under contract have gone down 47% and the number of homes sold has gone down 57%.

Fact #3: The Months of Supply Inventory (MSI) has gone up 2%.

The MSI tells us how long it would take to sell all the current inventory if sales stayed at the same rate and no new listings were added. In December 2006 the MSI was 9.9 and in December 2008 it was 10.2; both are Buyer's market.

Great Valley School District Home Buying and Selling

If you plan on buying or selling a home in the Great Valley School District you need to know the facts.

*All data is based off of all resale single family homes and townhomes for the past two years.*

Fact #1: The median home sale price is up 7%.

In December 2006 the median sales price was $444,000 and in December 2008 the median sales price was $475,000.

Fact #2: Since December 2006 the number of homes for sale has gone down 25%, the number of homes under contract has gone down 25% and the number of homes sold has gone down 71%.

Fact #3: The months of sales inventory has gone up 1% since December 2006.

The graph shows us the months of sales inventory was 11.4 in December of 2006 and 11.6 in December of 2008. Months of Sales Inventory (MSI) tells us how long it will take to sell all the homes currently listed if they sell at the same current rate and no new homes are listed. This number tells us it's still a buyers market.

Coatesville School District Home Buying and Selling

Here are the facts if you are thinking about buying or selling a home in the Coatesville School District.

*All data is based off of all single family homes and townhome resales in the district.*

Fact #1: The median sales price is down 17% from two years ago.

This graph shows the median sales price in December 2006 was $246,000 and in December 2008 was $203,750 which is a drop of 17%.

Fact #2: From two years ago the number of homes for sale has gone down 29%, the number of homes under contract has gone down 56% and the number of homes sold went down 65%.

Fact #3: The Months of Sales Inventory has gone up 59%.

The months of sales inventory (msi) tells you how long it would take to sell all the homes currently listed if no other homes were listed and the homes sold at the same rate. It is a good clue as to if it's a buyers or sellers market as well. This graph tells us the msi in December 2006 was 7.8 and December 2008 was 12.4 which are both buyers markets.

West Chester School District Home Buying

Here are the facts if you want to buy a home in the West Chester School District.

These results are based off of ALL the single family homes and townhomes in the West Chester School District.

Fact #1: The median price has gone down 6% in the past two years.

This chart shows the median home sale price in December of 2006 was $400,000 and in December of 2008 was $375,000.

Fact #2: In the past two years, the number of homes for sale went down 15%, the number of homes under contract went down 40% and the number of homes sold went down 43%.

Fact #3: The months of sale inventory has gone up 46% in the past two years.

Months of Sales Inventory tells us how long it would take to sell the current inventory if no other homes were listed for sale and the current sales rate continued. In December of 2006 the MSI was 7 and in December of 2008 it was 10.3.
