How to Break the Sugar, Carb Addiction for Good - a Book that Explains it All!

How to Break the Sugar, Carb Addiction for Good – a Book that Explains it All!

Whenever I come across something that will help others, I share it with everyone. 15 years ago I weighed 53 pounds more than I do today. It was a combination of eating out of depression and anxiety which packed on 30 lbs. Then I had a bizarre accident tripping and falling on the wire door of my dog’s crate which severed an artery, required 120 stitches and 3 days in the hospital. By the time I healed, I’d packed on another 23 lbs!

I decided it was time to address my issues with food. I’d been using it to feel better, calm my anxieties or treat myself for a job well done. Clearly it wasn’t working and the proof was on the scale!

I started eating healthy, non-processed foods high in vitamins, nutrients and fiber. If it came in a box, can or bag I didn’t eat it. I took a class on nutrition and learned how to read and understand food labels which can be so deceiving!

I dropped 53 pounds, but not overnight. However, within 3 weeks, I completely stopped craving high fat, high sugar foods and started craving grapes, apples, broccoli and salmon which blew my mind for obvious reasons. Moreover, I felt better than ever, had more energy and felt less anxious and depressed.

So up to now you’ve thinking – so what, I heard this all before! But here’s what going to help you change your relationship with food forever so you never crave these foods again and can still occasionally treat yourself to your favorite treats without starting the insane cravings!

While I knew what I was doing worked –after all, I’ve kept off 53 lbs for 15 years and no longer craved the foods that were spiritually, physically and emotionally killing me, I didn’t understand the science behind it until recently when I was in an airport bookstore…

I bought a book called: DIET REHAB – 28 days to Finally Stop Craving the Foods that Make You Fat by Dr. Mike Dow. It explains the brain’s chemistry and why willpower has little effect over the food cravings that are making us fat, unhappy and unhealthy!

If you’ve been struggling with losing weight, feeling deprived, have low energy and/or feel stressed out, eat out of boredom or use food to comfort you, this book is written for YOU!

The bottom line: We are all inadvertently using food to increase our natural serotonin (the calm, peaceful, and positive brain chemicals)and dopamine (the body's natural energizer and feel happy brain chemicals) with food.

Read this book and learn how to stop craving the foods that are slowly killing us and start craving healthy, energizing foods that boast our serotonin and dopamine, the body’s natural feel great chemicals!

Occupied Staging on a Budget by a Morris County Stager: Before/Afters

Staging Occupied Homes on a Budget by a Morris County, NJ Stager

The goal of every good home stager is to highlight the home’s assets, showcasing its best architectural features (fireplaces, crown molding, baseboard molding, hardwoods, windows, paneling, and coffered ceilings) all on a budget and without having to rent furniture.

We get creative and repurpose extraneous furniture from one room and use it in another. We strategically place accessories (art, lighting, pillows, plants, throws, centerpieces, and bedding) to draw your eye to those coveted features while updating your home, giving it a cohesive and neutral palate that will appeal to the masses……………without breaking the bank.

The two rooms below are occupied staging examples where the family lived in the home while it was on the market. I worked with an excellent Realtor who priced the home right for the market and hired me stage the home.

We worked as a team and the home was under contract in less than 2 weeks!

This famiy room was more casual, undefined with a lot of unused space…

We added a defined seating area, a small office (see in next angle) in the far corner and kept the eating area where it was. Now the room has 3 functions and makes sense to buyers…

Another angle:

After: small office, seating area and eating space...

This living room needed a lot of decluttering, updated accessories and removing 30% of excess furniture that hide the square footage and windows…

New accessories, a good cleaning and strategic MLS photos show off the room’s size, beautiful hardwoods, and MLS photos that gave it the WOW factor by highlighting the fabulous windows and fireplace…

Other side of the room before photo...

We used what the sellers already had, brought in new accessories and accomplished the WOW factor that lead to a quick sale!

The Methodology Behind Staging Your Morris County NJ Home: Before and Afters

The Methodology Behind Staging Your Morris County NJ Home: Before and Afters

Professional home staging has a purpose behind everything we do when preparing your home for the market. Stagers don’t just “decorate” to make things pretty although that’s part of it, our real goal is to give your home the WOW factor, appeal to the most buyers, show off the home’s architectural features and square footage.

Moreover, we give purpose to every space using furniture placement taking the guesswork out for buyers and give the home a clean, cohesive, updated look that will drive foot traffic to your door for a quick sale..............and it's all done on a budget!

My goal with this living room was to bring attention to the fireplace, highlight the room's formidable size and arrange the furniture in a way that makes sense to buyers. I wanted to create a gender neutral space, highlight the hardwoods and let the light shine in. (sorry about the blurry “before” pictures - I dropped my camera when I got out of my car for the consultation.)

Below are several different angles of the living room. While the fireplace is beautiful, the built in mirror appears larger than the fireplace and didn’t reflect anything of interest...

By adding canvas art in front of the mirror your eye is drawn directly to the fireplace while demonstrating that you can add art or leave it with just the mirror, but you have options...

I used brown, orange, red and cream accessories to show how many colors go with this particular wall color. Like I said, everything I do has a purpose behind it…

Another view:

Less is more in staging and this room didn't need art by the windows...

Snow, Sun, but Missing the Rain!

Snow, Sun, but Missing the Rain!

Life has been a crazy roller-coaster ride these last few months. I have taken some personal hits but that is life and time heals all wounds.

Work wise I’ve never been busier and am forever grateful. I never thought I would have to turn down jobs because I can't take on anymore staging and redesign projects. That is staggering to me and I remember well when I hoped and prayed the phone would ring! Just goes to show if you let nothing get in your way, stay focused and persevere, success can be yours.

However, I’m working so many hours it’s been all consuming which is why my husband and I decided to take off to Sedona, AZ for a week of climbing, hiking and getting out into nature which has a way of returning my spiritual, physical and mental equilibrium back into balance.

I work hard and play hard. My idea of the perfect vacation is to get outdoors and physically challenge myself while quieting the never ending stream of thoughts that permeate my brain day and night.

A little yoga on the red rocks is good for the soul...

I think it's important that we all take time out of our busy lives for a brief respite to recharge our physical and spiritual batteries. Sedona is a special place that always reminds me not to take life or its circumstances personal. It also reminds me of all the blessings in my life and not take them for granted

Climbing is a sure way to be present and in the moment. I focus on nothing but my next step....................... or it could be a long, hard fall! I got about 15 feet higher and had to turn back. Going up is the easy part - coming down, not so much!

Next year I'll make it to the top.......but bring my harness and ropes!

While in Sedona it was 70 degrees some days while other days we woke up to snow. My husband and I just rolled with it and enjoyed each other and all the beauty Sedona has to offer...

It feels so good to be back in the Rain and I can’t wait to visit all my friends who I’ve missed so much. For those of you who called, emailed or texted, you have no idea of how much I appreciate your thoughts and kindness. There’s nothing like the Active Rain community!

Home Staging is More than Pictures and Pillows!

Home Staging is More than Pictures and Pillows!

During my career as a Morris County, NJ Home Stager I repeatedly find there are so many misconceptions about home staging. We are not decorators focusing on your personal tastes and décor. Professional home staging focuses on highlighting your house’s architectural features and neutralizing the space so buyers can see themselves living in it.

Moreover, a good home stager will know your market demographics and tailor the décor to appeal to the broadest audience. It’s NOT about your personal taste, but capturing the attention of the most buyers on MLS and in person.

Do NOT be offended by the changes we make. It’s not personal! Prior to selling, your home is your sanctuary, a reflection of you and your family. We don’t live in spotless homes with limited furniture and no personal items. But, that is how we SELL Them. Now that you’re selling you need to look at it like a commodity to be marketed for sale with the focus being on the home, not its décor. More importantly it has to have MASS appeal!

A good home stager will know what art, accessories and paint colors are appropriate and the most popular by the general public. This Morris County stager researches Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, Valspar and Behr’s hottest neutral colors because that’s what people want.

A good home stager will draw your eye to the windows, fireplace, french doors and compliment your crown and baseboard molding along with any other architectural features. We take the guess work out of furniture placement, room purpose and maximize each room highlighting its square footage. Yes, we add art and accessories, but limited and only to compliment the room – not be the focus.

Only 10% of buyers have the ability to envision what your home could be. The other 90% will move on to your competition who did prepare their home for the market. The amount of money you invest to stage your home is a fraction of a price reduction.

Change your thinking and instead of accepting a price reduction as part of the selling process, chose a new and innovative marketing strategy to help sell your home by calling this Morris County Professional Home Stager @ 201-602-2562!
