This was the headline in our local paper and then I looked at the photo. It looked like Amy Felker, the owner of The Lewes Bake Shoppe and Notting Hill Roastery on Second Street in Lewes. It's right down the street from my office and I must get lunch from Amy at least twice a week. Now I find out she can SING! Not only that, she is teamed up with Stuart Vining, a local singer, songwriter and guitarist who we have seen in other very popular groups with the Boomer crowd - Big Hat No Cattle and Vinyl Shockley and Friends.
Bill and I will be going and I'm sure the Theatre will be booked with fans of Amy from both Lewes and Milton. Tickets for the event are only $8 and can be purchased at the door or by calling the Milton Theatre at 302-684-3400. The Theatre is online at www.miltontheatre.org for more information about this and other upcoming performances.
THE MILTON THEATRE offers up some a great variety of entertainment, from live theatre to performances by local and touring professional musicians. Most small towns don't have such a beautiful venue, they tend to hold concerts and plays in the high school gym or the church hall.
If it's the First Sunday of the month, you will find Open Houses throughout the town. The forecast is for a wonderful Spring Weekend for taking a walk through town. There are some great houses on the market and the shops in town are open for business.
Start here and we'll be happy to introduce you to our town - Milton, Delaware.

This custom home in the Historic District is located at 422 Chestnut Street, corner of Poplar. It's an easy walk to the heart of town where you'll find antique shops, The Milton Theatre, Irish Eyes, the Federal Street coffee house, Wagamon's Pond and so much more.
The town-wide Open House ths Sunday, April 5th, is from 12 noon to 3 pm.
Hope to see you there.

I just noticed that I am now NUMBER 12 in Delaware! YEA! Have to keep on blogging and posting more about how much Delaware has to offer. And, I should know. Before I moved to Delaware in 2000, I tried almost all parts of the country in my previous lives and careers.
I was born in New York, raised in New Jersey and then moved back to New York City after high school. From there, I was transferred and lived in -
WHEW! No wonder I enjoy working with Relocating Buyers. I feel their pain and also their joy at finding the right home in a new area.

My morning began today at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting. It's a great way to network with other local business people and newcomers to Lewes. Our guest speaker this morning was Julie Wheatley, the new Director of the Sussex County Economic Development office and she shared some interesting statistics with us about Lewes:
She also referenced a quote from Joe Biden -
"On the northern end of Delaware's beaches, Lewes, for example, is an historic town centered around boating with a distinctly New England feel."

I am getting so many calls and emails from New Jersey people lately, it feels like a -

CLASS REUNION!
You see, I grew up in Northern New Jersey - in Pompton Plains, went to DePaul High School (date blocked intentionally!) in Wayne, NJ, and then moved to New York City. Between then and today, I've lived in many parts of the country, but I always end up back in the Mid-Atlantic area. Today I live in Milton, Delaware, and my office is in Lewes. Lately I am spending more time with New Jersey folks than I have in many years and I'm having lots of fun!
DELA-WHERE? As a child, we went to Atlantic City on Easter Sunday to walk the boardwalk. We would spend a week here and there at the Jersey Shore each summer. The day after the high school prom, we all took off for Long Beach Island and got our first sunburn of the season. We never visited the state of Delaware and none of us ever thought we would end up retiring to the Delaware beaches.
WHAT HAPPENED? Taxes happened, that's what. As Baby Boomers approach retirement and the taxes in New Jersey and New York have gotten more and more onerous, they are discovering Delaware. It's not so far from home that the kids and the grandkids won't visit. A quick trip by Ferry (Cape May/Lewes Ferry) and you're on your way to visit friends and family or a weekend in New York City. Head west an hour and you're in Annapolis; another hour and you can be in the Nation's Capital.
Delaware is in the heart of all we love about living in the Mid-Atlantic Region and far enough away from the things we could do without - traffic, taxes, congestion.
Join me in Delaware, at least for a visit. You never know - you just might like it!
