Tips for Buyers - Helping to improve credit scoreCredit scores, along with your overall income and debt, are a big factor in determining if you'll qualify for a loan and what loan terms you'll be able to qualify for.
1. Check for and correct errors in your credit report.
2. Pay down credit card bills, transferring credit card debt from one card to another could lower your score.3. Don't charge your credit cards to the maximum limit, try to use 20% or less of your credit limit.
4. Wait 12 months after credit difficulties to apply for a mortgage. You're penalized less for problems after a year.
5. Don't order items for your new home you'll buy on credit such as appliances until after the loan is approved.
6. Don't open new credit card accounts before applying for a mortgage.
7. Too many credit applications can lower your score, but multiple inquiries from the same type of lender are counted as one inquiry if submitted over a short period of time. Shop for rates all at once
8. Avoid finance companies. Even if you pay the loan on time, the interest is high and it will probably be considered a sign of poor credit management.
Monday is the start of Masters week. This is truly one of my favorite times of the year. Schools are closed, there are so many new faces in town and of course there's some golf being played. If you're planning of being in town this week be aware that the weather might turn a little cooler mid week but will return to the 70s by the first round. Hope to see you around.
Interest rates are below 5%. There is a $8000 tax credit for first time home buyers. Sellers are more willing to negotiate on price. Although foot traffic seems to be increasing, I still see some many buyers that are "on the fence." The time to act is now. I see all the signs of a recovering market, the deals are now.
Time to get out and make an offer!
Yesterday the South Carolina State House of Representatives voted on a bill which is the first step toward reversing the POS (Point of Sale Assessment). This is a major victory and I would like to thank all the Realtors in South Carolina for contacting their Representative.
The fight isn't over, the bill still needs to pass the senate. Be on the look out and be sure to contact your Senator when the time comes.
First reading of an ordinance regarding use in limited business zone (LM). This ordinance will further restrict what businesses can be put in the LM zoning. The council will have the authority to grant permission on an individual basis rather than having a set, written rule regarding what businesses are allowed. This passed and will go to a second reading.
Please let you're city council member that you do not support this ordinance. There needs to be set rules that govern all, not some. This will lead to nothing but more red tape and the use of the "good ol' boy" system.
