Here is a notification and reminder from one of our local police authorities.....I have to imagine that most areas are feeling this type of increase.......you don't have to be the next one that has to file a report if you......
Please be aware that over the past month, there has been a sharp increase in car break-ins resulting in numerous thefts from vehicles. The thieves have been entering unlocked vehicles and also forcibly entering vehicles by breaking windows. Be proactive in all that you do and avoid the pitfalls of being a victim.
Attempt to park your car in well lit areas whenever possible
Remove ALL valuables from your vehicle, especiallyGPS units, satellite radios, handbags, wallets, loose change/money, garage door openers......someone may take a chance if you allow them the opportunity.
ALWAYS lock your vehicle and use an alarm if equipped......even if you are going back in 5 minutes.
Do not leave your vehicle running unattended.......those days have been long gone for me.
Report suspicious activity in your neighborhood IMMEDIATELY
Avoid having packages left on your front step. Have a neighbor sign for them, or have them delivered to your office if you are away during the day. Remember we can be our best source of protection for one another.

We're Moving Again!!!
March 29, 2008 at our annual Dinner Dance & Auction the Board of Directors and the staff of Downingtown Area Senior Center announced their plans to relocate. This newer and larger facility will be a collaborative effort between the Senior Center and the Downingtown Library. Both organizations will work with Mr. Peter Uhlman of The Percheron Group to renovate an existing building on the former Sonoco Paper Mill property located in the Borough of Downingtown at the intersection of Boot Road and Route 322. The cost of renovations will be approximately $3.5 million dollars and the Senior Center and Library will work together to raise the funds needed to complete the project. With a lead gift of $1 million dollars made possible by the developer combined with the sale of current facilities the Senior Center and Library anticipate a capital campaign targeted to raise $1.75 million dollars. This campaign is expected to be launched in January 2009. Our current facility is approximately 5,000 square feet. In our new facility we will have a 2,300 square foot dining room, 5 activity/classrooms, a state of the art kitchen, office and administrative space, plentiful storage and ample parking. Our new facility will boast nearly 10,000 square feet of space - doubling the size of our current facility. Additionally, the Senior Center and the Library will share approximately 2,000 square feet of space including two additional classroom/meeting rooms, a lounge/kitchenette and restrooms. Please feel free to stop by the Senior Center to view large displays of floor plans for the Senior Center and the Library in addition to architect renderings of the view of the building when observing it from the North, South, West and East. If you have questions in regards to the relocation feel free to contact Bill Pierce, Executive Director.
