I'm Thinking Of Killing My TV and Joining The Local Gym!

Are you in peak physical condition? Are you ever sick and tired of the brain-rot television programs that you willingly subject yourself to?

If you answered "No" and then "Yes" to the above questions...I guess you and I have a lot in common!

For far too long, now, my wife and I have been toying around with the idea of turning off cable TV and committing to regular exercise with a membership to a local gym. Actually, the YMCA is closest to our house, and they've got all kinds of sports activities for the kids, a full gym, and an indoor swimming pool.

It's not just a question of shifting dollars around in our monthly family budget, but rather a firm committment to "kill" our television so it no longer has a powerful hypnotic grasp of our minds in the evenings! The couch is so inviting, and the remote control for the TV is somehow super-glued to our hands.

The backlash from our kids is something we must anticipate as well. They watch various things on the TV throughout the week that would no longer be available if we "kill" the TV by turning off cable programming. But let's face it....the kids watch mostly brain-rot! Therefore, what kind of parents are we if we allow them to watch hours of Sponge Bob Square Pants, cummulatively, throughout the week? Can Sponge Bob be funny? Sure! Is Sponge Bob pure brain rot? ABSOLUTELY!!! But let's face it...they can watch DVD's we own or rent, and they can go swimming all winter long at the YMCA's indoor pool! How cool is that?

Well, if anyone else out out there thinks they have the guts to "kill" their TV and join a local gym...please, I'd love to hear from you!

Stood Up Twice In The Same Day!

Wow, what a strange day it was yesterday! It yesterday were the high school prom, I'd have egg on my face, let me tell you! I got stood up twice in one day! I was supposed to meet a Realtor at my office who was considering joining Keller Williams. He called in at 12 Noon sharp to say he wouldn't be coming (after I made a trip across town to meet up with him). Then, I had a showing for a buyer on the South side of town at 4PM and he didn't show up at all, and failed to call me. I hung out for a while, waiting patiently, but finally gave up and went home. I'm not whining, because the truth is that this is the first time this has happened to me. I've been lucky, I guess. But twice in one day? Ouch! Too bad I can't send them both an invoice for my time and for the gas for my Yukon XL!

Oh well, it happens to the best of us! (Right?)

McCain Picks Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin For V.P. Running Mate!

Wow! What a day for breaking news! The news just announced that Republican Presidential candidate, John McCain, has picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for his Vice Presidential running mate. Now, the big question is whether this choice is incredibly strategic on his part, or if it will ultimately hurt his chances of winning the White House. What do you think?

How Effective Was Obama's Speech At The Convention???

Well, last night was the big crescendo, the big, historical moment for Mr. Obama and the Democratic party. The big question on may people's minds is "how effective was his speech at the convention?". I guess ultimately a good indicator is to tune in to the various polls that the news media orchestrate and observe whether or not Obama has gained any percentage points in the polls that ask "who would you vote for if the election were held today?".

Another critical indicator may be the responses derived from the honest, intelligent, patriotic Active Rain members who read this blog!

So, how about it? How effective was Obama's speech last night?

Facebook Update

Well it has been a good few weeks now since I joined Facebook with the intention of building yet another online networking source to grow my business. I was worried it would be anything but that and turn out to be a crazy high school reunion.

Facebook has turned out to be an online high school reunion. And at this point, I have decided that it is OK and I'm actually having fun with it. I have "let down my guard" and I have decided to enjoy it for what it is. I've altered my serious, business-only attitude and allowed myself to enjoy the fun, social, entertaining aspects of Facebook.

Facebook can truly take on a life of its own. Once you get started, you send friend requests to people you know, and some of the people they know. Before you know it, you've got 60, 80, 120 friends in your Facebook account and they can all interact with you by posting comments to your "wall" or by sending you videos or other things.

My suggestion to anyone who is thinking about using Facebook for the first time, and wants it to be a powerful networking tool to grow their business, is to relax, lower your guard and have fun with it. Try to realize that it should and probably will be a social networking environment before it is ever a business networking tool.

If you go into it with a stern idea of what you want it to be for you, you will probably be disappointed.
