Shawne Merriman, Outside Linebacker for the San Diego Chargers, has his former home in Scripps Ranch on the market for $1,149,000.00. The 3 bedroom, 4 1/2 bath, 3,950 sq. foot home has been for sale since June 15, 2009. According to public tax records, Shawne bought the home in August of 2005, the same year the home was built - most likely a rebuild from the result of the Cedar Fires that spread through this area back in 2003.
The single story home was custom-built by McCullough-Ames, a well-known builder in the San Diego area. The property has a great backyard with a pool and spa with no neighbors directly behind it and panoramic views of the canyons.
The home is currently listed with Steve Ferreira of Coldwell Banker Residential

Lakeview Park is located in the central part of the community of Scripps Ranch. The park has great views of Lake Miramar and views of the ocean are possible on a clear day. Nestled between Lake Miramar to the west and the community of Renaissance to the east, Lakeview Park is a great place to spend a relaxing day outdoors.

The park has three play areas; there is one with a sliding board and jungle gym, another with swings and one on the northern side of the park with rings (for the future gymnast). There are restroom facilities located near the main entrance.

There are plenty of picnic tables at the park. A few even have roofs over them, for those who want to enjoy themselves without the sun ruining their day. In the middle of the park, there is a large open area - perfect for throwing the football or laying in the grass with your favorite book. Click here for a satellite image of the park.

Directions: From highway 15, exit at the Mira Mesa Boulevard exit and head east. At light, make a right on Scripps Ranch Boulevard. At second light, make a left on Scripps Lake Drive. Follow for approximately 1.7 miles and make a left on Mira Lago Terrace. The park will approximately 1/4 on your left.

The Scripps Ranch Community Park is the largest public park in Scripps Ranch. It is maintained by the City of San Diego's Park & Recreation division. With 2 lighted ball fields, 1 joint use field, lighted outdoor basketball courts, a large turfed area, slides and a jungle gym, covered picnic shelters, barbeques with hot coal bins and a large indoor gymnasium (with a basketball court) with a multi-purpose room that has a kitchen and classrooms, there is bound to be something for everyone.

There is a large amount of open space at this park. If you like to play frisbee, throw the football or just want to take your dog for a walk (there are plenty of them!), this is the place to go. Parking is ample and the lights stay on until 10:00pm every night.

The play area is a great place for children. There is a large jungle gym, swings and slides for them to burn all that excess energy. The area is covered with sand so if they fall, you won't have to worry about any cuts or scrapes!

The Recreation Center is by far the biggest attraction at the park. There are a ton of activities available. Click here for the Center's latest Program Guide. The Recreation Center hours are: Monday, 2:00pm-8:45pm; Tuesday, 2:00pm-7:45pm; Wednesday & Thursday, 1:00pm-8:45pm; Friday, 1:00pm-5:45pm; Saturday, 10:00am-3:45pm; Sunday, CLOSED. A satellite image of the park can be found here.

A park permit is required for the following:
1. Groups of 75 person or more
2. The use of special equipment (party jumps, generators, staging, etc.)
3. Athletic field reservations
4. Selling food or merchandise
5. Tournaments or fund raisers
6. Picnic shelter/gazebo reservations
For permits or informations, contact the staff at the Recreation Center or call 858-538-8085

Lake Miramar (AKA Miramar Reservoir) is located in the center of Scripps Ranch, approximately 18 miles north of downtown San Diego. It is open seven days a week, from sunrise to sunset, for walking, biking, jogging, rollerblading, picnicking and fishing. There are 18 barbecues and 48 picnic tables located at various locations around the lake. Click here for a satellite view of Lake Miramar.

This is a great place to have a family picnic, get some exercise or take a quiet stroll around the 5-mile perimeter of the lake. If you decide to walk or jog the entire 5 miles, keep in mind that there is very little shade during the day and it gets quite hot in the middle of the afternoon during the summer months. Getting here an hour and a half or so before sunset provides much cooler temperatures and typically a nice breeze.

For the avid fisher, there are many species of fish that call Lake Miramar home. Some of these include Florida-strain Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Sunfish and Trout (which are stocked December-March). The minimum size limit for bass is 12 inches and the fish limits are 5 Trout, 5 Bass, 5 Catfish and 25 Crappie. There are no size limits for the other species.
On the weekends, rowboats, canoes and boats with 5HP outboard motors are available for rent. Aside from fishing from boats, float tubes and fishing from the shore are also allowed. If a float tube is used, you are restricted within 150 feet or less from the shore. Chest waders must be worn and you are required to have a Coast Guard approved personal flotation device readily available at all times. The flotation device must have 144 square inches of international orange visible at least 12 inches above the water line. You must also posses a horn or whistle in order to warn any approaching craft. You are required to purchase a $5.00 permit if your float tube uses oars or has a motor.

From the west side of the lake, you can see all the way to the coast and watch beautiful sunsets (during the warmer months, you can watch hot air balloons as they launch from the area of Carmel Valley). During clear days, you can see downtown and the Coronado Islands off the coast of Mexico. The views from here are a site you cannot miss!
Directions: From Route 15, exit at Mira Mesa Blvd. and head east. Turn right onto Scripps Ranch Blvd. and at the second traffic light, make a left onto Scripps Lake Drive. The entrance to the Lake will be approximately .5 miles on your left.
