Just published by Nolo Press and in stores now. I received my first copy this week and was thrilled to see how it all came together.
The end of last year Nolo Press approached me to be the professional advisor for the staging section of the book that they were putting together called "Selling Your House in a Tough Market." I had staged one of their employees homes the year before and after doing some research on Home Stagers in today's market thought that I would be a good match for the project.
The really exciting news is that my section on staging titled "Dress Your Home for Success: Staging." is the LARGEST SECTION of the Book Just a few years ago I am not sure that Staging would have even been included in a Real Estate book of this kind and now it's the largest section. The Living Room had beautiful hardwood floors and tiled fireplace is overwhelmed by dark walls. Even the molding was painted the dark red color. We painted the walls, had the fireplace cleaned and buffed the floors. Keep in mind that this shot was taken at the same time of day as the after.
The upstairs had an office that did not really have much appeal until we painted the trim and transformed it into a nursery.
This before shot of the kitchen doesn't really do it justice. The cabinets were dark purple with dark hardware. We simply had them painted, changed out the hardware and painted the walls. The difference is night and day!
Our lovely clients son loved the color blue when he lived there are few years back. We neutralized the wall and made this large room into guest quarters.
A simple coat of paint, uncovered hardwood floors and using inspiration for the bedding from the lovely flowering vine just outside the window helped set the room up just right.

Nolo Press a fantastic publisher of business books asked me to be their Advisory editor for their section on preparing a home for market "Dressing Your House for Success" in their upcoming book due in May "Selling Your House in a Down Economy."
I was honored to work with a wonderful team on this important section of the book. After all is said and done it appears that it will be the largest section of the book! Oh my, has staging come a long way in a short time. A few years back I am not sure this section would have even been included in a book about selling a house. Now it's the largest part!
In addition, they asked me to do the pod-cast to publicize the book that will be available on www.StagersLISTExpo.com and their website www.nolopress.com. The more education on the benefits of staging the better! My Realtor client called me up to say that she need a staging for her client who had a tenant. She wanted me to go by and give her a bid when I had a moment. She was so sweet because she was very concerned that the homeowner had a dog. Me being a dog person I had no concerns. When I arrived and enter the house this little guy was waiting for me.
Being a true stager I found the site of the living space much more scarier than "Killer" here. This was what we did with the space after Killer was moved elsewhere with the belongings.

Just wanted to let you know the SUPER job you did for me a staging the house at 654 37th st. It was really an incredible showpiece!! The seller was very happy and especially the fact that she received about $25000 more than we were asking, and this is in a down market. If we did not stage that house it would probably still be sitting on the market like all the others. I was happy too because I was able to double end it from someone who just came to the open house and fell in love with it. The buyer said "it was the most beautiful house she had ever seen"!! We agreed to use Kym's services for the sale of my Dad's house.
What a dazzling transformation. From just a "nice house" to something
the really looked good. The end result was that we sold the house for
$60k over asking price, which I don't think we would have gotten
without her services.
So when we sold our own house it was a no brainer to hire her again.
She worked her magic a second time which resulted in the house selling
for $15k over asking price, on a much higher priced house, in a tougher market.
Our thoughts on all this? Get your house staged and get Kym to do it.
Otherwise you'll be kicking yourself when your neighbor, who WAS smart
