For kids, the most wonderful time of the year is Christmas. For parents, Christmas comes in August, when children head back to school. For parents of Lake Havasu City schoolchildren, the most wonderful time of the year begins on Monday, August 3rd.
Recently, the Arizona Dept of Education released their ratings for schools in the state and Lake Havasu students received high marks. Specifically, Daytona and the former Havasuonline rated a Performing Plus, Havasupai and Lake Havasu High rated a Highly Performing and Smoketree, Thunderbolt, Starline, Nautilus, Oro Grande and Jamaica all rated as excelling. This is fabulous news, since all schools in the district either maintained their previous year's status or rated higher than the previous year. Way to go, students!
Each year, a new crop of teachers for Lake Havasu City schools is welcomed into the district. And this year was no different, as new teachers were introduced to one another on Wednesday at the new teacher orientation lunch inside the Havasupai Elementary library.
This group of teachers has come highly recommended, making many say it's the best group of teachers the district has had. The group is also coming into one of the most excelling school districts in the entire state.
Not one of the schools in the district have been on the academic failure list. Each school has a rigorous but relevant curriculum which, with a strong commitment from teachers, will leave a legacy that will be remembered for years to come.
Some of the teachers have come from as far away as Missouri, South Dakota, Michigan, Idaho and Canada. Many will be teaching high school and middle school students in the district.
The Lake Havasu Unified School District is made up of seven elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school and many alternative schools. The district provides an effective environment that supports productive learning, which requires safe and clean facilities with adequate space to provide instruction.
So, if you're looking for a great place to relocate with awesome schools, it looks like Lake Havasu City is the right place to be.
Awesome news beach lovers; Windsor Beach, which is located in Lake Havasu State Park, will be open this 4th of July weekend despite the state budget shortfall. The decision was reached on Tuesday afternoon, when Arizona State Park and Lake Havasu City reached an agreement allowing the city to take over the
park and boat launch ramp.
Visitation to Lake Havasu State Park has been up over 110% since 2008 and this 4th of July is expected to be even better than last. The Lake Havasu Marine Association is expecting over 1,000 boats to launch from Windsor Beach ramp this weekend alone, making it one of the busiest boating spots on the lake. And, best of all, entry to the park is free the entire weekend.
Keeping this beach open for the holiday weekend will also be a great opportunity for the city's summertime economy. Windsor Beach is on the list to remain open because it has had the most visitors, with over 173,000 in the last year.
The only bad news I have come across is that the Windsor Beach campgrounds will not be open for the weekend of the 4th. The city just doesn't have the manpower or the resources to operate the campgrounds and all that goes with it. Also, Cattail Cove will be closed since the city doesn't have the manpower to operate this park either. The visitation to Cattail Cove was down 3.9% percent since last year.
The big question remaining is where will you spend your 4th of July this year? I hope to see you at Windsor Beach in Lake Havasu State Park.

The time has finally come to retire and start enjoying a free life. One where you can go where you want and do what you want, any time of the day like you were a kid again. But where will you choose to spend your retired days?
Many retirees choose warm sunny places to pick up and relocate to. Therefore, I would like to take a moment to share Lake Havasu City for the 55+ set with anyone that's getting ready to retire or that has already retired.
There are two types of retirees that make up Lake Havasu City: the Snowbirds and the permanent
residents.
The Snowbirds are retirees that have come looking for a warm alternative to the bitter cold of the state they reside in for the rest of the year. The permanent residents are the ones who have found that they love Lake Havasu's climate and found that it works for them all year round.
Lake Havasu City and its wonderful suburbs of Sun Lakes Village, Lakeride Estates, Havasu Heights, Desert Hills and Foothills Estates all make wonderful communities to own a home in. There are also great communities nearby, such as Bullhead City, Kingman and the beautiful golf community of Valle Vista for homeownership.
Lake Havasu City is home to the world-famous London Bridge and the area is an absolute outdoor lover's dream. It's a playground for watersports and desert enthusiasts everywhere. Whatever your outdoor activity choice is: golfing, boating, fishing, water skiing, jet skiing, swimming, camping, hiking, backpacking, you'll find it here. And the weather is perfect in Lake Havasu City year-round.
So the question is, when it comes time for you to retire, where will you do it?

Another new store has opened its doors in Lake Havasu City. It's exactly what the English Village needs to get restored after such a tough economic plunge. Everywhere you look in Lake Havasu City, you see business picking back up and, recently, new businesses have been opening. Hope is on the horizon.
The most recent store to open its doors is 100 Proof at Heat Hotel. This new convenience store will keep consumers well stocked with sodas, beer, snacks, ice and they soon have plans to add package liquor by Memorial Day.
The store opened with the basics for now. However, they will be adding more and more as money allows. Additional shelving is also expected to arrive within the next week or two to hold more merchandise. As Memorial Day arrives, the store is preparing to carry ice cream and giant pretzels for tourists and local visitors to enjoy.
100 Proof is a one-of-a-kind store in the channel. The store is accessible to boaters from the Bridgewater Channel, making it easily accessible to just pull up in your boat and get out to shop for those small items you might need or just want. If you are on foot, you can find 100 Proof at 1420 North McCulloch Blvd., Suite 110 next to Wild Wear under Heat Hotel.
It's great to see the community getting back to normal after tough times. And businesses coming in are a sure sign of an upswing. If you're interested in opening a business in Lake Havasu City and need to relocate here, I can help. Just give me a call and let me know what kind of home you are looking for.
