Although perhaps this is a question that you've asked yourself briefly before deciding to save money or other transaction costs in a complicated situation, this is truly the question that any Real Estate Attorney should be asking of you.
"What can we do for you?" Your Attorney should be making your particular transaction or overall situation easier by finding expedient solutions to your problems, helping protect you from potential pitfalls, and advancing your interest, all while keeping your goals in mind.
Too often it seems that the role of many Lawyers becomes one of the heel dragger, the problem rather than solution finder, and eventually, the deal breaker.
People often forget that role of a Lawyer can also be one of adding value to a situation or transaction. This is especially true at the start of a transaction. From finding and solving a problem in negotiations, or a contract or other document before it blossoms into problem of potentially great magnitude, to negotiating a settlement when the time for the "pound of cure" comes around, a good Lawyer can add value and save money.
As tempting as it is to crack a Lawyer joke and balk at any supposed need for an Attorney, keep in mind that Real Estate Attorneys are not there to run up bills and slow down your transaction, and most will bring far more to any situation than they take away from it.
