The BIG news is taxpayers buying a home in the near future (or those who have bought since the law passed) can amend their 2008 tax return, this will allow them to claim the home buyer credit on the 2008 return without waiting until next year to claim it on the 2009 return!

If you have not filed the 2008 taxes yet you may file a extension until 15 Oct. to be able to claim the credit this year.

For some people it may make more sense to wait until 2009 and before making any quick decisions contact your accountant for guidance.

Well known as one of the largest on the East Coast this years Oktoberfest held by the Delaware Saengerbund and Library Association did not disappoint! There were over 20,000 people this year having a great time with German music, dress, dance and traditional German food and beer.

Sept. 17-21-The event has been held by the Delaware Saengerbund since 1979. The group was founded in 1853 as a German-American singing society. The proceeds of the event support the Saengerbund Library among other charitable organizations connected with the German-American community.

The event is held in the third week of September because the weather is much nicer than October.

The fourth Annual Newark Film Festival is bigger than ever with 30 feature films and 112 Screenings!

Some of the films were filmed in Delaware or have actors or directors who live here. One connection is the director of American Teen directed by a University of Delaware grad and it stars a former American Idol contestant (he plays the dorky guy)

There is also a film about the Life of Hunter S. Thompson a author who wrote Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. One of the strangest movies I have ever seen.

Newark Delaware Real Estate

University of Delaware Head Coach K.C. Keeler and Delaware State University Al Lavan participated in a cook off for charity Monday in Dover.

The event will raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware and the Mid-Atlantic IMPACT Delaware Tobacco Prevention Coalition.

It was a great time for all as the event was held in front of a crowd of students and players. Keeler (UofD) cooked Blue Hen Chicken and Lavan (DSU) made a tasty beef chili.

The event was ruled a draw but a few DSU students celebrated by cooling off their coach with a gatoraide shower at the end of the event!

The City of Newark Delaware held its 5th Annual Food and Brew Fest in downtown Newark on July 26th.

The one day event offered brew tasting, prize drawings and food specials in honor of American Beer Month. The brewers and chefs also gave mini-seminars on what food goes best with different types of beer.

The day was not all about eating and beer tasting though. There was a huge sidewalk sale, strolling musicians and a craft fair for kids.
