If you have plans for a fall cleaning of the house, garage, or work shed here is information that can help you achieve clean up goals

Furniture & Appliance Bulk Trash Collection

In late August, Frederick County mailed out vouchers to non-municipal county residents for its second annual Residential Bilk Program.

The residents listed on the voucher may use the voucher one time to bring a maximum of four (4) bulk residential items, such as furniture, to the Frederick County Landfill at no charge.

The expiration date is listed on the voucher.

Residents are responsible for transporting their items to the Reich;s Ford Road Sanitary Landfill. However, the resident may assign the voucher to another party, such as a commercial trash hauler, by completing the appropriate area of the form.

Alternatively, you may give the card to a friend or neighbor to bring bulk furniture items to the landfill on your behalf.

A voucher issued to a commercial hauler will allow the hauler a 100-pound tipping fee credit per voucher. Any load in excess of 100-pounds per voucher will be charge the remaining weight ar the current tipping fee.

The voucher has no monetary value and cannot be redeemed for cash, credit or used to pay existing landfill charges.

White goods (appliances , such as refrigerators, freezers, washers and dryers) are accepted at the Reich's Ford Road Recycling Center year round at NO CHARGE. You DO NOT need a voucher for this.

Motor Oil & Antifreeze Recycling

In cooperation with the Maryland Department of the Environment and local businesses, six motor oil recycling locations are offered within Frederick County for residents to dispose of motor oil and antifreeze in an environmentally safe way. There is a 15-gallon limit per resident per trip.

Nearby drop-off sites sponsored by Frederick County are as follows:

  • Reich's Ford Road Recycling Center, 9301 Reich's Ford Rd., Frederick, Monday thru Saturday 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
  • Frederick County Maintenance Facility, 215 Prospect Rd, Mt. AIry Monday thru Sunday 24 hours/day
  • McFuel - 100 Sandstone Drive (off Rt 194), Walkersville, Monday thru Sunday 24 hours/day

Nearby drop off sites not sponsored by Frederick County are as follows:

  • Tractor Supply Co, 301 Century Drive, Mt. Airy , Monday thru Saturday 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM

Electronic Recycling "E-cycling"

An electronics drop-off site is available at the Citizens Convenience Center located within the Reich's Ford Landfill entrance at 9301 Reich;s Ford Road, Frederick. The program provides an environmentally friendly alternative to electronic waste.

Computer Donation Management Inc., is the contractor managing the program and its goal is to recycle as much equipment as economically feasible.

A fee of $3.92 for each 100 pounds or $78.40 per ton of electronics is charged to help offset a portion of the cost of the program. Items may be dropped off from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Monday thru Saturday at the landfill.

Acceptable electronic items include:

* cables * cell phones * central processing units * circuit boards

*computer chips/cards *keyboards * laptops *monitors

* computer mouse * power supplies * printers * scanners * televisions

We all can take time out of our busy schedules to reduce the size of our ecological footprint on the planet. It just takes a little planning on our part. I hope these schedules help you and your family with the "Honey-Do List" that we all have.
