Be a lean mean money making machine!

I love blogging...it gives me time to reflect and think about work. As a mother of 5, I often find myself putting "ME" last. All you Mom's out there know what I am talking about. It seems like a never ending cycle of dishes, cooking, cleaning, homework, taxi service to all kid's activities and ALL while managing your own business. I found myself in a RUT! I wasn't making anytime for me and I was suffering for it. I was gaining back the weight I had worked so hard to lose. I wasn't sleeping well. I felt on edge all the time and one day I just stopped and asked myself........"How can I be good to anyone else when I am not good to myself?"

I started back exercising and while I was riding my bike all of a sudden I found myself smiling. Yep, right by myself, just me on the bike alone. It was heaven. Not only did I bike 14 miles that day, but I had a chance to think about my day. In particular, I had a difficult room to home stage and half way through the ride, the answer came to me, clear as a bell. Because I was able to deliver fantastic results to my home staging client, not only did she use me for another project, but she referred me to another home staging consult.

You're probably asking yourself, why is this chick telling us all this? The answer is easy. EXERCISE!

Regular exercise has a profound affect on many aspects of our life. Exercise not only improves your health and reduces stress caused by unfitness; it also relaxes tense muscles and helps you to sleep. Exercise can cause release of chemicals called endorphins into your blood stream. These give you a feeling of happiness and positively affect your overall sense of well-being. When you think hard, the neurons of your brain function more intensely. As they do this, they can build up toxic waste products that can cause foggy thinking (you may have experienced the feeling that your brain has "turned to mush"). By exercising, you speed the flow of blood through your brain, moving these waste products faster! It also It improves blood flow to your brain, bringing additional sugars and oxygen that may be needed when you are thinking intensely.

There is also good evidence that physically fit people have less extreme physiological responses when under pressure than those who are not. This means that fit people are more able to handle the long- term effects of stress, without suffering ill health or burnout. In this economy I think it's all something we can do to make things a little easier on ourselves and healthier all around! You, your family, friends and clients will all benefit from it!

So be kind to "YOU" and don't forget to make that "ME" time we all need and deserve! Not only will you benefit, but EVERYONE around you will benefit from it as well.

Here's to a healthy week!

Stage the exterior for under $50

Anybody can dress up an entrance or yard by simple adding a seasonal display outside. This will make the home seem warm and inviting. Don't forget those potential home buyers are already forming opinions as they are pulling up to the house. Having an inviting display outside of the home can give the potential home buyer the "warm fuzzy" feeling right from the start. Setting the tone when showing a home starts the entire emotional attachment. So when you are staging a home, don't forget about the outside too!

This is a quick and easy display that you can duplicate under $50. Enjoy~

Don't forget to stage that garage!!

Let's face it, most garage's end up being an endless overflow of junk accumulated through the years. From tools to furniture everything can be found there. Staging the garage is not only a great time to de-clutter and make things easier for the move, but it can also create additional revenue that you weren't expecting!

The garage is one of the rooms that frequently get overlooked and yet have a big impact on the sale of the home. Cleanliness is first priority. Since the garage is typically not clean and full of junk when a potential home buyer sees a garage that is orderly, clean and clutter free it subconsciously indicates to them that you take better than average care of your home.

Don't forget to paint! Remember painting is a great way to update any room and give the appearance of a nice clean property. Stay with clean colors, grays and whites usually work very well.

For added bonus and if you really want to rev up the male buyer, epoxy the floor in the garage! Epoxy not only tops off the pro look but also resists oil stains, beads water, and wipes clean like a kitchen counter. Color chips and custom paint colors hide annoying imperfections in the concrete! It's easy an inexpensive to do, but boy does it go a LONG way!

So when you are staging your home to sell, don't forget about the garage!

Giving back to your community goes along way!

I sit on the Board of Directors for St. Christopher's Children, located in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

St. Christopher's Children is a non-profit organization that provides funds for the immediate personal needs of abandoned, abused and disadvantaged children in Georgetown County. We are community-based and rely exclusively on volunteers to perform our work. We seek to help children of all ethnic groups and provide funds for those personal needs that cannot be met by existing social services or government agencies. The burdens endure by abused, abandoned, underfed and unclothed children among us is difficult to comprehend. They are referred to as "shadow children", unseen but in our midst until a crisis is brought to our attention. Some are rejected by natural or adoptive parents. Others have been denied basic human needs, deprived of a normal family environment. These are St. Christopher's Children. They emerge from the shadows in a crisis when social and law enforcement agencies respond. Some are rescued from abusive situations, often in the middle of the night, their meager possessions (if any) tucked in a plastic grocery bag with little more than the clothes on their backs. Some are newborn babies received directly from their hospital cribs. There are others who are victims of family poverty where meager resources leave very little beyond what is necessary for bare sustenance to feed them. Some refuse to go to school for the tattered hand-me-downs they are forced to wear, a situation that subjects them to peer scorn.

As they emerge from the shadows, St. Christopher's Children bridges the gap between rescue and placement in structured community support systems and beyond that period where necessary. We have risen to bridge the fragmented efforts of caring individuals, service clubs, faith based organizations and others to focus on the children's immediate needs.

I was humbled at our fundraising breakfast this morning where we released our first video about the children and needs we provide for them. It breaks my heart to see children in need.

I was the event stager for this project, knee deep in flowers, stems and thorns making 40 floral arrangements for the table 2 nights ago, I realized this morning. It was all worth it!

Not only did we raise thousands of dollars for these children, I had two fellow community leaders approach me about staging a home they had for sale on the market, but I also had another company that talked with me about staging an upcoming function they are going to have. So I came away with a very satisfied day, mostly because I have the privilege of taking part in our community, but I also gained new home staging and event staging business.

My point? Get active in your community if you are not already, not only can you impact your local community in a positive manner......you might just earn new business along the way. A great day in my book!!

Hope everyone has a productive and blessed week!!
