Go Green Expo Los Angeles, CA

01-25-09
Leah Pollack

The Go Green Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center was fantastic. A good group of people, products, services, programs and incentives showcased to innovate and educate. Sustainability is achievable for the future marketability of our homes and to lessen our dependence on foreign sources for energy. I look forward to sharing the information, products and services available in our own area when I see you around town. Promoting good stewardship and responsible attention to how we use items and re-use items is exciting for renters and property owners, business owners and those in public office. It is possible to acheive this with community cohesion toward this valuable cause. Mariel Hemingway shared some interesting insights into the meaning of 'Green'...in the home evaluating the fit and finding the home that reflects who we are and who are yet to be. This is one of the best buyers markets in a long time. Elite Professionals are Realtors®. As strong communities are those with great participation, then Northpark Elementary, part of the Saugus School district has truly made community participation priority #1!
The Parent Teacher Association P.T.A. has energized the students, parents and local businesses by succesffuly combining fundraising efforts and family fun! The PTA provides music, art and cultural events during assemblies, in the classroom and at a monthly family night held on campus.
In addition to movie nights, the PTA hosts cultural performances like Celtic Spring. Celtic Spring. A burst of energy. Driving music. Riveting dancing. Celtic Spring is six siblings who play the fiddle and step-dance, backed by their mom on the keyboard and their dad on percussion. Visit them at celticspringband.com In addition, through co-op fundraisers the P.T.A. showcases local restaurants and shops during a monthly family night out. These evenings give families the opportunity to enjoy an evening out while helping raise money for the school.

Get Your Green On - Proactive Renewable Energy Project in Santa Clarita Valley, CA

12-20-08
Leah Pollack

Given the recent developments on the world stage with Go Green new building efforts, I am hopeful moving forward that newer communities will be built from the 'ground-up' to get the most from the 'sky-down'. (Sun, wind, rain water, smart-plants, digital sprinkler sensors, etc.)

But what about where we live now? I feel the arena of retrofitting communities to keep existing developments marketable are not being addressed.Smart-growth must include new development but also must anticipate future eco-retrofit standards on existing communities.

Are we really that far away from renewable energy mandated standard?
"Pay highly for what you take": A home may only take x amount of energy from the power grid, or pay a premium price. OR perhaps..."Pay highly for what you don't give": A home must generate y amount of renewable energy, or be charged a premium price.

This project is taking the proactive approach to the 'new' energy-efficiency. How else can an older home compete with the higher energy efficient 2012 model homes where energy bills are less and water usage for yards is cut in half? (okay I am really hopeful, but think about it, not too far off from the mark with the technology available)

Share your thoughts... anyone have insights into what is coming up in Los Angeles County or Sacramento?

Enjoy the day!

Holiday Festival - Manhattan Beach, CA

Holiday Lights and Spectacular fireworks! Thank you to the community of Manhattan Beach for such a great evening out! The Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks Festival is held at the Pier every year in December. This year they had the Skechers Snow Park which was set to a wonderful backdrop of the Pacific Ocean and a Decadent sunset.

From a penthouse patio we stood awe-struck under the full glory of magestic fireworks! By the light of the display we could see the white-cresting waves, other onlookers with their neon light glow sticks and a sail boat. Ah! Winter by the Beach.

We attended a Holiday Party hosted by the Panache Team http://www.panachetech.com/ With our gracious host we shared some cheer from Vino 100! Visit http://www.vino100valencia.com/
