Greenville Businesses are Opening, Expanding and Looking for More

Business openings include a new full-service Hyundai dealership is moving in on Wade Hampton Boulevard in Greer, South Carolina, adding another car lot to the popular auto sales area. Suzuki also recently announced a new dealership nearby and indicates the strength of lower-priced vehicles in today's current economy.

Expansions in Greenville include our own Liquid Highway, a local coffee shop with six locations in the Upstate, is building a flagship type store on N. Pleasantburg Drive near Cherrydale Mall. The growing area with heavy traffic use seemed the ideal place to put their freestanding, drive through coffee shop with an adjacent eclectic retail store. The retail store will be in a 10,000 square foot building that will house other tenants and will be located across from The Home Depot and back towards Cherrydale Mall. Liquid Highway has a unique mission: they donate all of their after tax profits to support the needy and disadvantaged around the world. Their Touch the Ground Foundation donates to medical facilities, missionaries, schools orphanages and the feeding of starving families in 27 countries.

Greenville Businesses are thinking ahead by showcasing Greenville which is vying to host a karate organization's national championship in 2010. Greenville City Council voted to pledge $20,000 in hotel tax revenue to help bring in the event, which is expected to host about 7,500 visitors. The USA National Karate-Do Federation is looking for an entertaining and inexpensive location for the event and is also looking at Tacoma, WA and Stockton, CA. The Bi-Lo Center would be the venue if Greenville, SC gets the pick.

Trees Maintenance on Main Street in Downtown Greenville SC

Main Street Greenville SC treesDowntown Greenville's Main Street trees will be undergoing a renovation. The city has determined that the Main Street trees need some attention. Some are growing into the sidewalks, some have mistletoe invasions, some need a hair cut, while a few need to be taken out and replaced with more appropriate species. The goal of the city is to maintain the canopy and surrounding landscape of Main Street for years to come while preserving the aesthetics of the area. The trees will be taken care of and replaced utilizing the most current urban tree planting technology available. The focus will be to increase the tree's growing space, improve the soil conditions and remove the sidewalk trip hazards.

The work will progress in two phases and access to businesses will not be affected. The tree care will be performed by Schneider Tree Care and they will be communicating with local business and coordinating the work so as not to interrupt business.

Phase one of the tree care will begin with the removal of aging maple trees, which will be replaced with Allee elm trees and holly shrubs. Metal railings will also be replaced with the trees. Phase two will encompass restoration of oak trees at different locations along Main Street and the possible closure and removal of some sections of sidewalk. Additional work will include mistletoe removal and crown cleaning of all the oak trees along Main Street. Temporary closures of parking spaces, sidewalks and lanes of traffic will occur as the work progresses.

Flour Field in downtown Greenville SC Might Host the ACC Baseball Tournament

downtown greenville sc real estateIf you like college baseball, you may be able to sample the ACC tournament in downtown Greenville at Fluor Field - 2011 through 2013. Those dates are up for grabs and the competition is fierce between Greenville, Myrtle Beach, Jacksonville, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem. Jacksonville has long hosted the tournament, but the next two years will see it in Raleigh and Boston (Fenway Park) respectively. Look for more on the decision in May.

Fluor Field has flourished since it opened in 2006 in downtown Greenville SC. It copies Fenway Park in Boston. It has a "Green Monster" which is a 30 foot high wall in left field with a manual scoreboard. The dimensions of the field are the same as Fenway Park's dimensions including "Pesky's Pole" in right field. In both 2006 & 2007 the field set Greenville's single-season attendance records. The 2007 record is 339,810 and the previous high was the 2006 season with 9,722 fans attending. What a jump. The stadium is a fun attraction for families and singles looking for something local to do. Before and after the games people visit downtown Greenville's restaurants and bars making the evening an event with friends. The new Swamp Rabbit Trail with it's George Hincapie section as detailed here, provide additional recreation and transportation routes to Flour Field. It's a wonderful win-win situation for both downtown Greenville and The Greenville Drive.

If the stadium attracted the ACC tournament, fans would have a wide selection of entertainment, food, recreation and events to choose from in downtown Greenville SC. The tournament would be a great success on all sides. Tell me what you think.
