Loose Lucy's Relocates Relocates but stays in Downtown Greenville

If you are missing the hippy-style clothing store on Main Street at Piazza Bergamo, Loose Lucy's has moved to 203 North Main street in downtown Greenville. A lease dispute earlier in the year actually turned out to be a good opportunity and Lucy's took over the former site of Uptown Downtown and added space. Liquid Highway has leased the site that Loose Lucy's has vacated. When the economy slows, fast food restaurants are still forecasting increased sales and moving forward with expansion plans. Around the Upstate, projects by McDonalds, Bojangles, Krystal's Famous Chicken & Biscuits, Checkers, and Quaker Steak & Lube are all adding stores. According to Tom Sponseller, president of the South Carolina Hospitality Association, quick-service restaurants sales are increasing while casual and fine dining is down. IMAX Theater on Hold

For IMAX fans that were waiting for the new screen at Hollywood 20 on Woodruff Road, you'll have to wait a bit longer. Regal Entertainment announced that the planned conversion project will be put on hold until after 2009, which is at least a year later than the original date of completion. The project is still on the table though, and when it does comes to the Upstate it will be only the second one in South Carolina. Myrtle Beach has a screen and otherwise, Charlotte, NC is the nearest theater. New Retirement Community in Mauldin

Mauldin has given initial approval to a rezoning request that will allow a new retirement community at Miller and Corn roads, just behind Mauldin High School. The community will have units for independent living, assisted care and memory care such as Alzheimers. Mauldin has a large population of seniors, but the coming retirement of baby boomers across the nation belies the need for more of this type of housing. For more information about active adult retirement communities in the Greenville SC real estate market, please contact The Cunningham Team.

Laurens County lands industrial project

Laurens County just landed the largest investment project in its history. Brazilian non-wovens manufacturer Fitesa announced that it would start construction early next year in the Owens Industrial Park which is just off I-385. That will give a boost to the county which has had increasing unemployment over the last year. Fitesa stated that they intended to create about 100 jobs at wages higher than the average in Laurens County. Owens Industrial Park is only a short drive from bustling Simpsonville in Greenville County where employment has been historically better and where Simpsonville real estate values have held steady or gained. Overall, the move of a high technology textiles manufacturer bodes well for the Upstate as a growing industrial power and will certainly have an impact on home sales Greenville SC.
