Quick Tip To Share - Microwave Cleaner and It's GREEN!

Living Green - Green Cleaning TipsI don't know about you but no matter how hard I try I always get spatters in my microwave or something blows up in my microwave. Hhmmm, Liam learned that it's really cool to put a marshmallow in the microwave to watch it expand - besides, he wanted smores! Well, the marshmallow expanded alright - it exploded! YUCK!

Here is a great GREEN way to get those messes out of your microwave - I tried it - IT WORKS!

Microwave Cleaner Recipe:

  • 2 cup measuring cup or large enough bowl AND
  • spray bottle
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
First, I put the water and vinegar mixture in a spray bottle. Spray the interior of the microwave liberally, let stand for a few moments and then wipe. To get to the spaghetti sauce stains (you know you have them!) put the rest of the water/vinegar mixture in the bowl. "Cook" the mixture in the microwave for 3 minutes - to boiling. When the cook time has expired let the bowl stand in the microwave for about 10-15 minutes. Do NOT open the door. After the time is up all "loose" food will have come loose and can be easily wiped off. Stains will also magically disappear!

For a quick freshener in the microwave you can also heat up a bowl of water with sliced lemons in it - removes nasty odors!

Lastly, to prevent the "EXPLODING MARSHMALLOW" trick - do not let you 9 year old near the microwave!! :)
