Charlotte is going to the Dogs

petPET PALOOZA is the Humane Society of Charlotte's annual dog walk and pet festival coming up on Saturday, May 30th (rain date June 6th). Our goal is to raise over $75,000 and we're currently over $52,000!

Join over 2,000 event participants who walk with teams of family, friends and co-workers in this special celebration of our four-legged friends! Event highlights include; a one-mile pet walk, vendor booths, refreshments, musical entertainment, a fido fashion show, a silent auction, entertainment & activities and fun for the entire family.

The event will be held this year on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Independence Park with a rain date of June 6, 2009. If we're using the rain date, the decision will be made by Wednesday, May 27th and all walkers and vendors will be notified via email. A rain date will only be used in the event of threatening/lighting conditions, not light rain.

One of Charlotte's major attractions is hosting NASCAR Coca Cola 600 and the action starts on and off the track this weekend.

Join the gang at VICTORY LANE KARTING for the second annual 24 Hour Karting Challenge. This is the only 24 hour indoor Karting race in the US and you will not be disappointed.

It is a great spectator sport for young and old. Non stop action and excitement.

Lake Norman has gone to the turtles

Lake Norman's First Turbo Turtle Race

Saturday, May 9, 2009 | 2:00pm-5:00pm Midtown Sundries, Harborside

The Coca-Cola 600 is only a few weeks away but 10,000 cute Turbo Turtles will be racing this Saturday on Lake Norman. The event is to benefit LifeSpan & Speedway Children's Charities. Just off the shore line at Midtown Sundries 10,000 fake turtles will be dumped from boats in a closed course. The race is expected to take about 15 min but these green guys may have a mind of their own. Midtown has arranged for bands all day long starting at 2:00 pm and the race starts at 3:30.

Bring the kids and bring your friends.......for $5 you can adopt a turtle and help a great cause.

The Charlotte market has weathered the storm better than most. We continue to see new jobs and construction in the area. The Charlotte Business Journal published this week the Charlotte area business rankings on 2008 FORTUNE 500 list.
