Revlon Run Walk Los Angeles Recap and pictures of May 10th's Event

For the 15th year in a row, I participated in the Revlon Run Walk for Women. In my previous blog I told you I'd give you an update on the day. Here's how it went...

I woke up at 4:30am. I made some coffee, dressed and left the house at 5:00am. I went to pick up my girlfriend, Kerri. We both look alike and we both sing! La la la!!

We managed to get a parking space in the $10 lot at the Coliseum - but in the dirt. My poor black car. Ugh!!! Anyway, we proceeded to the check in and dropped off donations and got our grab bag of goodies and a T-Shirt. During this time, we kept running into one of the photographers from the Entertainment Industry Foundation. He snapped our picture during the day. Mind you, there were over 50,000 people at this event. We walked around all the vending booths and picked up information on where to obtain free mammograms, obtained freebees from CVS, UCLA medical center, etc.

We then listened to Melissa Manchester sing a song she wrote entitled Pink Ribbons. Very moving indeed.

We got to the starting line and saw Tom Selleck and Carrie Ann Inaba (from Dancing With The Stars). It didn't feel like the walk took as long as previous years - maybe because I wasn't walking alone this time. We ran into a few heros and a weatherman.

Here are some pictures from our journey...(sorry about the quality, I took the pics with my Palm Treo)

This is at the start...

At the colisium we were entertained by Belinda Carlisle and the GoGos. That was fun.

I'm looking forward to doing this again next year...and I'll start earlier raising funds. Kerri and I decided to get some T-shirts made for us as a team. We'll be calling ourselves the "Pink Divas". Care to join us next year?

Tea Time at the Rand McNally House in Altadena June 8th

The Altadena Historical Society will host Tea Time at the Rand McNally House on Sunday, June 8, 2008 from 4pm to 7pm.

The Rand/McNally House is one of the newest Nationally Registered Historic Place and is located at 654 E. Mariposa Street in Altadena (right across the street from the Altadena Library).

You will be able to tour the beautifully restored house and enjoy refreshments on the lawn.

Building historian Tim Gregory, who prepared the national registration application said, "The significance of the site is based on the importance of its original owner, the founder of the Rand-McNally Map Company; its eye-catching architechure by famed pioneer designer Fredrick Roehrig; and the role it played in attracting many of Altadena's early 'movers and shakers' to settle in the community."

Frank and Jo Dupuy have owned the McNally house for over 50 years.

For information call Jane Brackman at (626) 794-0700

Tickets are $10 each for Altadena Historical Society members, $12 for members of the public. For more information, go to: http://abacus-es.com/altadena/mcnally.htm

Tonight at the Coffee Gallery in Altadena

It's the perfect weather to sit back and relax and listen to the acoustic guitar sounds of Claude Bourbon.

Claude Bourbon will be performing at the Coffee Gallery in Altadena tonight at 8pm. Tickets are only $15.00.

After what I went through last week with traveling to the East Coast, attending a funeral, and not sleeping for almost 36 hours at one time, this is a welcoming treat!

L.A. Revlon Run Walk Saturday May 10th - Join Me

In 1996, my mother, Nancy Lane, was diagnosed with breast cancer and ultimately had a mastectomy. Fortunately, her cancer is now in remission.. My grandmother, Darutha, lost her life to cancer, as did my father, Bill Lane. With the history of cancers in my family, I am committed to the fight against women's cancers. On Saturday, May 10th, I will be participating in the 15th Annual Revlon Run/Walk For Women. I have participated in this event since its inception. Over 50,000 are estimated to participate.

This year Melissa Manchester will be singing at the opening ceremonies. I'm not sure who's going to be singing in the Coliseum, though. Last year it was Pat Benatar and prior years, Brian McKnight, the Bangles, Kenny Loggins, Gladys Knight....

Here are some pictures from last year...

It's Me!
You can join me in the fight against women's cancers by joining me and raising funds yourself, or you can make a donation on my behalf. Your donation will help fund important research into the cause and cure of women's cancers, prevention, education and support service programs. Every donation will help bring us one step closer to a cure. Until a cure is found and we know that all women are safe, we must continue the fight.
