The Pasadena Police Department will conduct a DUI Enforcement Check Point tonight between 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., said a spokesperson in a news statement. Of course, the location is under wraps...as it should be.
Clearly, the Pasadena Police Department's goal is to remove impaired drivers from our streets and this program has shown to be a proven and effective tool.
What I don't understand is that funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Shouldn't this just be part of their regular schedule for holiday or special event celebrations? Maybe the cities just don't have enough people (or money) to man these checkpoints. ???? It just kind of surprised me that the city had to get a grant to pay for it.
Finally, after decades of saying I was some day going to visit JPL down the street from my home - I finally went.
It was a long, hot afternoon walking around JPL with my husband, Chris. I never knew how big the place was.
We went from visiting the Microdevices Laboratory (where engineers and scientists work in the world of the ultra-miniature), to the Journey of the Solar System, to Mars Exploration. We really wanted to view the Journey to the Planets and Beyond video, but the line was almost 2 hours long. We figured we'll find it on the internet one day or see it on Nova.
All in all, it got me to thinking about how small we are in this vast planet of ours and how advanced our technology has become. Do you remember how big computers were back in the late 70's? You know, like in the movie "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes"...and then you think how small they are now and you can carry one in your backpack. Just imagine that one day, instead of a big satellite in the solar system, there will be a tiny little bullet sized vessel that can be placed into the solar system instead. It may not happen in our lifetimes...but, it will happen!
Some people have contacted me about Victor Wright and haven't seen some of his links.
A new article in the Pasadena Journal was published this week. To see it you can go to http://www.pasadenajournal.com/id30.html#story2
You can also go to www.victorwright.com
Victor was in very good spirits today as I sat and talked to him and his brother, Dexter. He and his mother are looking forward to all of the upgrades in their home.
I can't believe that it's been a whole year since the last Revlon Run Walk in Los Angeles. It seems like just a couple of months ago.
Next Saturday, May 10th, I will be participating in the 15th Annual Revlon Run/Walk for Women at the Los Angeles Coleseum. I've participated every year and this year it seems that I've run out of time to obtain substantial sponsers like years past. I've never missed the walk, so I'm going to do my best to pass the word along. For now all of you can go to www.Revlonrunwalk.com for more info. I'll post again shortly regarding details. But, in the mean time - sign up or donate or walk with me!!!!
