At Fire Station #33 at 515 N Lake Avenue, some of the Pasadena firefighters will demonstrate life saving techniques that include extinguishments, rescuing someone from a vehicle and aerial ladder operations. Fire engines and other equipment will be on display and there will be hot dogs and other refreshments as well as entertainment.

Nestled in the Foothills of Pasadena between Altadena and La Canada just north of the Rose Bowl, you'll find the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory will welcome members of the public to its Open House Saturday and Sunday.
At this free, all-day event, visitors can watch 700-pound robots glide under artificial stars in JPL's Robodome, get an up-close view of full-scale models of Mars rovers, and learn how spacecraft are prepared for their journeys in special clean rooms.
They will see numerous solar system, robotics and Earth science exhibits and learn about various space missions, including the Mars Phoenix Lander, scheduled to land on the Red Planet on May 25. Visitors can also see how NASA instruments measure greenhouse gases, which will help scientists better understand global climate change.
You will actually be standing & interacting with both past & future history. Take whoever you want with you, everyone enjoys this.
JPL's Open House begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. on both days. JPL is located at 4800 Oak Grove Dr. Parking is free.
Yesterday I gotta tell ya - IT WAS HOT!! Victor's house has no air and I don't think it had been cleaned (spring cleaned) in over 20 years. The carpet in Victor's bedroom was the same carpet that was there when they built the addition on to their home to accommodate him - 32 years ago!
The channel 4 news was there (to see a clip go to http://www.knbc.com/news/16023070/detail.html ) The Star News showed up and so did the Pasadena Journal. I told the Journalist from the Pasadena Journal that I'm challenging every Realtor in Pasadena and Altadena to do "something" for this family.
I arrived there at 8:00am. Since I'm not very experienced with performing construction labor, I lent a hand (and a few of my muscles) to haul things out to the dumpster and to prepare Victor's room for painting. I finally got my hubby, Chris, to show up and he was the best thing that could have happened to the day (and to the contractor organizing the event). I couldn't believe how fast he banged things out. As I left at 1:00 (to show my buyers some property in La Crescenta) I was amazed at the progress of the day!
So far, I've received some e-mails from people who are willing to donate some funds to help Victor's family. I'll let you know in the coming months how much was raised. There is, however, still time for you to lend some muscle to this project. Rebuilding Together Pasadena will be at Victor's home again on Friday and Saturday, May 2nd and 3rd. Bring your hammers, screwdrivers, gloves and a good attitude. Particle masks and goggles are provided. For more info go to http://www.rtpasadena.org/ You'll receive a free TShirt and a boxed lunch. Remember, all things are temporary in life - and so is this project. It takes place at 3379 N. Glenrose in Altadena - just south of Loma Alta Drive. Won't you consider lending a hand?!
I can't believe how it can be only 60 degrees one day last week and almost 100 degrees yesterday! Go figure. Global warming I gather. This planet earth of ours has gone through the freezing of it and the heat of it for millions of years. So in the midst of it comes an early fire season for us here around the foothills of the San Gabrial Valley.
The sky has been overcast all day here in Altadena, but, that overcast was from the smoke from the fires occuring in our fair city of Sierra Madre. I didn't even know about it until late last night because yesterday I spent the day working on Victor Wright's house (see previous blog) and showing properties to my buyers.
Sierra Madre is located about 5 miles east of Altadena, where I live. Pretty darn close!!!
Here's the website for Sierra Madre - http://www.cityofsierramadre.com/
The Sierra Madre City Council held a meeting early this morning to declare the City in a state of emergency.
Over 1,000 people have been evacuated and the "Santa Anita Fire" has so far burned under 400 acres of wildland. No homes have been destroyed. The fire is only 5% contained and the fire department is saying that it will take 4 to 5 days to contain it.
Shelters are located at 222 W. Sierra Madre Blvd and another is located at 170 W. Sierra Madre Blvd.
