Henderson County Fair Closes!

Fair week comes to an end.

What a great week!!!

The weather was hot and humid.

Thousands attended the fair this week and with just a few minor glitches, all was well.

Food was great....thanks to the Resue Squad, VFW, Fire Department, Altruistic Club, and all the other great cooks for causes.

As far as business exhibits, Green Thumb Nursery was my favorite. Such talent.

Lexington Christian Church wins the prize for entertainment. Andy Avery is an awesome singer and musician. Enjoyed Wednesday night youth group.

RE/MAX wins the team award. Jamie Perkins, Kathy Fisher, Janice Johnson, Monica Downs, and Nick Mays donated a whole bunch of time and energy to make sure that every child had a balloon and every adult had a chance to win the 32" Flat Screen TV. Congratulations to Steve Rhodes, the lucky winner.

Thanks for visiting our fair booth. Enjoyed seeing and talking to each of you.

Looking forward to next year.

Turn Off That TV, Now!!!

OK...I am old fashioned and not really into MTV.

Tonight was the Video Music Awards.

What a disgrace! The very few minutes I watched this, some British guy make a mockery of the White House, told me who to vote for, fondled himself, used such offensive language, and I am sure made his country ashamed to claim him. All this before I could find the remote to turn the channel.

I cannot believe that anyone would find this entertaining.

My granddaughter is not speaking to me, but so be it, it's my TV.

Makes you wonder if any of those associated with this type programming have children.

Each month, the Imagination Library mails a new age-appropriate, hardcover book to registered children from birth to age five-at no cost to the family, regardless of income. The cost of delivering 12 hardcover books to one child is $30 annually. This cost is split evenly between Henderson County and a state budgetary allocation requested annually by the governor, approved by the General Assembly, and administered by the Governor's Books from Birth Foundation. Meaning, Henderson County Imagination Library must raise $15 per child, per year.

There are nearly 200,000 children currently registered for the Imagination Library in Tennessee. Henderson County has approximately 1,652 children under the age of 5 and of those we are serving 66%. Henderson County Imagination Library has to raise approximately $30,000 annually to cover the cost of this program.

So, your support would be greatly appreciated!

For more information about the Henderson County Imagination Library, or to sponsor/register a child to receive the monthly book, contact Mayor Dennis Ray McDaniel ~17 Monroe Ave. Suite 4 ~ Lexington, TN 38351 ~ (731) 968-0122.

Hope to see you there!!!

A Lesson In Home Inspections.

Yes, it's Labor Day, and most are on the lake or grilling in the backyard.

What am I doing??? Meeting with the home inspector and buyer to do the pre-closing home inspection.

Now, normally I don't go and follow the home inspector around during his inspections. But today was different. The buyer had drove 1000 miles to be present during this inspection and the home inspector agreed to take time away from his family on a holiday to accommodate this buyers schedule. So, being there was the least I could do.

I learned so much from this inspection. Just what was involved. How thorough he was in his checks. What might be a red flag, things he saw that I never nor the buyer ever noticed. Time well spent, needlessly to say.

So, salute to home inspectors. You earn every penny!!!!
