Great Healthcare for Beach Lovers Relocating or Retiring to Coastal NC

Great Health Care in Atlantic Beach NC, Beaufort NC, Morehead City NC, Pine Knoll Shores NC

Top REALTORS know the most significant concern for relocating retirees is good specialized health care that is accessible to preferred residential communities. Who among us wants the worry of an hour-long road trip to get to a good gastrologist? Fortunately, the coastal community of Morehead City, NC offers a wonderfully caring community of physicians and facilities that center on specialized health care.

As we age, our interests over quality of life increase, and that quality of life is defined first by our own health and then by what we can do with that health. For some of us, feeling good about our quality of life means finding holistic practitioners to meet our physical and emotional needs. For others, quality of life means making sure we surround ourselves with the activities and interests that we love and that keep us fit and vital.

Additionally, quality of life can mean living in conditions that support our well-being. Many believe that living in a mild climate that provides humidity, as found in coastal communities, serves that purpose. And, of course, so many of us now have sick or elderly loved ones who depend upon us to make sure they get the special care that they need, whether that means in-house assistance or within an outside facility. Few things can impact quality of life like managing the life of another person. All of these things are considerations for the new or seasoned retiree who is seeking that ideal place to call home.

In the waterfront town of Morehead City, North Carolina, which is at the heart of the Crystal Coast, one finds the crossroads of medical offerings. Carteret General Hospital is a 135-bed acute care facility which has been the primary healing center for thirty-five years. Accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, Carteret General is a complete complex that includes a birthing center, cancer clinic, Hospice services, and also a Specialty Clinic which affords patients more specialized care in the areas of neurology, nephrology, pulmonology, and neurosurgery.

Private Practioners of every type fill out the medical community along the Crystal Coast. You'll find a clinic dealing primarily with women's issues and another practice that focuses on natural health care. For those wishing a preventative or more natural approach, The Whole Health Resource Network publishes a free directory of service and product providers that includes massage, yoga, reiki, life coaching, vitamin and herb experts, and fresh food markets. You can request the directory and obtain more information at www.wholehealthresource.com

Rehabilitative clinics and services are plentiful in Carteret County, NC. From respite care to home health assistance, every need is managed for the recovering patient or long-term disabled. A recent report on assisted living and nursing facilities in the state showed Carteret County's Snug Harbor at Nelson Bay to be among the best.

With medical concerns out of the way, a retiree can then concentrate on enjoying the lifestyle that we all dream...fishing...golfing...and strolling the boardwalk at dusk. As for locals, we love boating over to Shackleford Banks to watch the wild ponies run or taking a picnic to the Cape Lookout Lighthouse for some serious shell-hunting. We can't get enough of our delicious fresh-caught seafood, and we adore nothing more than to sit on our decks with a glass of wine at the end of the day watching the orange and pinks melt into a glorious sunset. Here, the golden years never seem so perfectly named.

Buying Waterfront Property-10 Reasons Why The Crystal Coast

Why coastal NC is the place to buy and NOW is the time

We have a plentiful supply of Condos, homes, lots and boat slips. Sellers are really getting anxious.

When considering the purchase of a retirement home or a second home with a water view, some research is in order. For people with a sea-going spirit, or who just need "water" in their life, there are some good reasons why the communities along the southern outer banks of North Carolina should be on the short list of options. Ten reasons are listed below.

1. In the Morehead City-Atlantic Beach, NC area, there is a choice of sound front or oceanfront homes minutes apart without the hassle of over-crowded beaches and the feel of too much commercialization. Bottom line: one can get around with ease no matter the water-location.

2. Military retirees who enjoy base privileges will find complete amenities within an easy thirty-minute drive.

3. The Crystal Coast is "snowbird" heaven. Along with the mild year-round temperatures, the Crystal Coast of North Carolina is located about a day's drive from most northern states-that means convenience for those who need to visit the snow every now and again.

4. The Morehead City area boasts world-class diving for folks who like "under-the-water" activities. Scuba Diving Magazine readers have selected this area as America's Premier Diving Destination. The famed pirate, Black Beard, deposited his "Queen Anne's Revenge" on the sea floor just along the coast, attracting divers from around the globe.

5. The character and personality of the group of coastal communities provides a rich environment in which to live. Beaufort by the Sea is the third oldest town in the state, but revitalization brings many to enjoy a stroll along its boardwalk, claimed as one of "America's Best." The inns, eateries, and shops that dot the waterfront create a wonderful day excursion for locals and a relaxing destination for visitors. Yacht-watching is a favorite pastime, as the Intracoastal Waterway runs right by Beaufort's harbor, opening a view of nearby Carrot Island, where one can watch wild ponies grazing the shore.

6. The Big Rock Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament is the largest and most prestigious non-profit tournament on the east coast. The "Big Rock" is actually a location that spans along the shores of Morehead City and Beaufort. Several stair-step features have created a fabulous plummet to the ocean floor that is one of the world's most active marlin spots. Sportsfishing is big here, so several tournaments draw those who love the thrill, but even surfcasters and casual boaters enjoy the plethora of opportunities to cast a line.

7. Carteret County historically has one of the lowest property tax rates in the state, and the 2007-2008 tax rate of $.23/$100 valuation is the lowest rate of any North Carolina county.

8. A dozen killer golf courses within an hour's drive make the Crystal Coast a superb location for the golfer. About half of those courses are located in and around the beach and mainland communities of Morehead City, Pine Knoll Shores, and Cape Carteret. Former Ryder Cup leader, Curtis Strange calls this area home.

9. The arts are alive and celebrated in the Crystal Coast. Perhaps it is because the water attracts artists, but world-renowned craftsmen, musicians, authors, and potters live and thrive along the banks. There seems to be an active enclave of creative sorts that share their talents in wine bars, galleries, on boats, under tents, and on rooftops. Where there is a spot open- you'll find artisans gathered.

10. The seafood found in restaurants and bistros in Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, Beaufort, and Morehead City is as fresh and varied as the innovative preparations. The chefs here so pride themselves on their creations that they have an annual contest among themselves. The incredible choices rival any found in more metropolitan areas, but without metro-pricing or a stuffy atmosphere. Beach casual is almost always acceptable.

We all know that owning a seaside retreat is what most consider the ultimate dream, but it's probably closer to the truth to say that it is the ultimate languishing of the human spirit. It's why a childhood beach vacation ignites a constant-burning fire of beckoning. Poet, Loren Eiseley, put it this way... "Every time we walk along a beach, some ancient urge disturbs us so that we find ourselves shedding shoes and garments or scavenging among seaweed and whitened timbers like the homesick refugees of a long war." This is a call that cannot be ignored, and for those ready heed the call, the reasons above may point the way to a beautiful shore to call home.
