I think Santa's Sleigh Must Be In The Shop...

I've heard that even here - in Safety Harbor, Florida, Santa still gets around with his sleigh and 8 reindeer (I've got to question Santa's judgement since snow is about as rare as reindeer hoofprints on the roof but I'll chalk it up to tradition at this point)

Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I'm a bit concerned as I saw him just a few nights ago hitching a ride on our local fire truck. He was sitting up there waving like he usually does in the Macy's day parade - acting as if nothing was wrong even though the sirens were blaring and green red and yellow lights were flashing and the fire marshall was escorting him in an out of the neighborhood. Is Santa in some sort of trouble? Is it possible his sleigh is in need of repairs? Has rudolph taken ill? I'm hoping this is just routine maintenance and that his little preview was simply reassurance that he will, indeed, be around as usual this year.

Come to think of it, I think his sleigh broke down around the same time last year because I sort of remember the firetruck and a few elves out there calming the masses - Whew! I feel better!

Who says it doesn't snow in Florida?

A week from this coming Saturday ( the 12th of dec.) it's Winter in Safety Harbor with the annual Safety Harbor Snowfest. This yearly event is hosted by the Elena Tresh Foundation which provides support to those impacted by a child's catastrophic illness, terminal illness or loss of life.

Join the fun from 4:00 to 8:00 at the baseball field at 940 7th Street south. Music will feature Saxaphonist extrordinaire, Eric Darius. Have fun on the giant snow ramp (covered with 30 tons of snow - I didn't measure but I guess someone did) the bouncy house, various games, performances by local talent, food and drinks and of course Santa will be there for pictures.

Admission is just $5:00 and that includes 2 tickets for SNOW DAZE, the giant snow ramp. Come on out for winter sports - you may just get a little chilly!

For all you runners who aren't TOO serious..... Safety Harbor Autumn Fest

This November the 27th, make a dash down to the Safety Harbor marina for the first annual Autumn Fest. This 5 kilometer (that's just a little over 3 miles) run will wind up North bayshore and main Street before finishing back at the Marina.

The cost is $28 and that includes a free custom T shirt for the first 800 applicants. It starts at 6:00 pm (so you might want to wear your miner's lamp) you can go to www.cityofsafetyharbor.comDocumentView.aspx?DID=1652 to pull up an application form - you can also pay by check.

The celebration promises live music, good food and lots of beer, the later being vigorously emphasized . If you don't like to run, come out and watch all the ambitious people work off their Thanksgiving dinners and enjoy the beautiful weather and the fun. And go buy something downtown and support our local vendors. We have a great town!
