Monday Musing- How do you answer "Where are you from?"

I had posted a picture a few weeks ago on my blog showing a beach and making it a game- where was this taken?

I had several comments guessing North Carolina, because that's "where I'm from."

The last person who used that quote "that's where I'm from"  got me thinking- where am Linda Jandura RealtorI really from?  How do people answer that nowadays?

Do you say "You're From" where you were born?   Where you grew up?  Where you spent many years as an adult?

Or do you answer that  "You're From" where you live now?

What if you just moved in to your new town and have only lived there a few months? Do you answer that you're "from XYZ"  if you have lived there for less than a year?

What if your heart is still in ABC, but your life circumstances have caused you to move to EFG?

Then we get down to the nit picky. Do I say I'm from North Carolina, or from Raleigh, or from Apex?

The Triangle area of North Carolina is a popular area for people to relocate to because of the high tech industry, medical community, and our wonderful schools and univiersities. . We have people who have relocated from New York, California, New Jersey, India, and all over the globe.

With people moving all over the world now, will the phrase "where are you from" require a 10 minute conversation to answer it?

Usually I answer that question with, "well, I'm originally from upstate New York- the Buffalo area, but lived in San Diego and raised my family there for many years.  Lately I'm from North Carolina."  Sometimes that's way too much information for the person asking, but mostly it gives people something to ask a follow up question about.

How about you? Where are you from, and what do you tell people?

Bele Chere in Asheville NC- keeping it weird.

Living in the Raleigh North Carolina area, we're lucky enough to be within 2 hours of the North Carolina coast and beaches, or a few hours drive to the mountains and the gorgeous city of Asheville, North Carolina.

Probably best known for the "Biltmore" mansion and it's wineries, Asheville also has an active art and music community.

My family is lucky enough to have friends that live close to Asheville so we are able to visit this area fairly often. There's always something new to do or someplace to explore.

Last weekend Asheville was holding it's annual Bele Chere street festival. Many streets were blocked off to make way for all the craft booths and food vendors.

With 4 stages set up for music, each one hosting a band with a different genre, music filled the air wherever you walked.

And if you weren't watching a band, there was a good chance that a street musician, many in the "frozen statue type" costumes. was entertaining a nearby group of people.

Of course downtown Asheville has a plethora of unique restaurants and pubs, so finding somewhere to eat and enjoy some drinks was only made difficult by the many choices we had.

One of the best parts of Asheville is the gorgeous architecture on the old buildings.

As with street festivals in big cities and little towns across the nation, the best part is usually people watching. Asheville was no exception. The residents seem to take pride in being a little "weird", and making sure that Asheville stays that way!

No, I didn't buy the t-shirt. How would that go over in Apex?

How much home can I get in Apex North Carolina for My Money?

How much home can I get in Apex North Carolina for My Money?

Even with the economy still struggling to climb out of the hole and real estate still waiting to see where the bottom is in some parts of the country, here in Apex North Carolina homes are still selling well.

Last week Apex made one of the famous Forbes lists of best places to live- rising all the way to NUMBER 3 this year in the country for towns over 25,000 in population.

So once again, it's time for my semiannual, sometimes monthly, once in a while, list of homes for sale in Apex, North Carolina as well as a report on how sales are going.Linda Jandura North Carolina

For the month of June 2009, a total of 64 homes closed. The average price for these closed homes was $265,919.00 and the average Days on Market was 78.

Continuing with the good news, 78 homes went under contract and an additional 28 are pending with a contingent contract on them.

Now the question is, so what's for sale now? Moreover, what can I get in my price range?

Currently in Apex there are 41 homes priced under $200,000. Many of these homes have a garage and a nice lot.

Recession Friendly Free Excursions - Garden tours in Raleigh North Carolina

J C Raulston ArboretumSpring is in full bloom here in North Carolina and what better way to celebrate it than to visit some of our local gardens.

After working on my own yard and garden in Apex for the last 2 weekends, my friend Deena and I decided to visit the J C Raulston Arboretum at NC State University.

I've heard of this garden for several years, but regrettably never had the chance to visit. After this one excursion, I know I will be making this a frequent outing.

Named in honor of its founder, Dr J.C. Raulston, the Arboretum is a teaching and research facility for students, the green industry, and the public.  The gardens have over 5000 different types of plants from all over the world, spread over more than 8 acres in a beautiful garden setting.

Admission is Free and the public is welcome. Hours are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM from April through October.  The gardens are open 7 days a week, including holidays.

I suggest you stop by the Education Center first to pick up a Visitor Guide. Free parking,

In the near future I intend to visit some of the other renowned gardens in our area - the Duke Gardens in Durham and the NC Botanical Gardens in Chapel Hill, to name a few. What a peaceful and enjoyable way to spend a few hours on a Spring day.  And did I mention FREE?
