Block Scheduling in Wake County Public Schools

Block Scheduling in Wake County Public Schools

Block scheduling in Wake County Public Schools is a new concept for many residents new to Cary NC and surrounding areas.

Let me clarify what block scheduling is and why we have block scheduling in Wake County Public Schools.

  • With block scheduling instead of a student taking 6 classed each year the student will take 4 classes each term in 90 minute blocks of time.
  • Block scheduling allows a total of 8 classes a year resulting in 32 credits instead of the normal 24 credit opportunities over 4 years.
  • Students wanting to enroll in additional upper-level courses have that opportunity with block scheduling.
  • The school is able to offer more elective courses with block scheduling.
  • Students who "start behind" in middle school will have a greater chance to complete an advance course of study.
  • Block scheduling allows students more flexibility in their schedule when pursuing a long-term course of study ie: band, foreign language
  • Students needing to repeat a class will have ample time.

Block Scheduling in Wake County Public Schools

From a personal point of view, my two girls went through middle school and had one period a week on block scheduling. This allowed the student a chance to get used to the new schedule they would have in high school. In high school it was a bit of an adjustment, especially Freshman year, and especially first period. Like anything else the block scheduling in Wake County Public Schools is something they became accustomed to just like off-campus lunch. (That's a whole different blog.) In the end, the block scheduling prepared them for college and the time management associated with the longer classes. As a parent, I'm a fan of block scheduling in Wake County Public Schools

Wake County Public Schools offer a wide variety of educational opportunities from: traditional & year-round calendars, magnet programs, charter schools, and much more. Find out all you need to know about Wake County Public Schools when moving to Cary NC.

It is right down Davis Drive between High House Rd and Hwy 64, across form the Davis Drive Soccer Park.  Park Village was designed with the first-time home buyer, young couple, and young families in mind. Back in 1993 it was a perfect fit for families moving to Cary NC. The homes average between $160,000 for the one car garage homes and up to $320,000 for the larger homes that offer two car garages.

The Cary NC Park Village homes for sale caters to the family with a large pool that hosts a yearly swim team; “Park Village Porpoises”. The festive clubhouse can be used by the residents for private events or neighborhood gatherings. A kid favorite is the large playground near the pond. The Park Village playground is also a favorite for parents to visit and playgroups to organize. The walking trails that wind through the wooded center of the community is just another attraction to this affordable neighborhood and are part of the Cary NC greenway system.  Another unique feature is the design of Park Village, no homes are on the main community road.

The biggest benefit to the Cary NC Park Village homes for sale is its location! It is within walking distance to Davis Drive Elementary and Davis Drive Middle School. They are the traditional school choice. Want the year-round option? Salem Elementary and Salem Middle School are right around the corner at the intersection of Davis Drive and Old Jenks Road.  All these Wake County Public Schools schools are top-rated!  As a former Wake County teacher feel free to contact me with any questions about the schools system. My own children attended Davis Drive Elem., Davis Drive Middle, and Green Hope High.

Finally, when considering a move you will want to  know how much closing costs will add to your expenses and what to expect during a home inspection.

Just a personal note, when I was out taking pictures of the front of Park Village I was stopped by the side of the road and turned on my flashers. A gentleman pulled over and asked if I needed any help. A few minutes later I was taking pictures of the walking trails and playground and spent 20 minutes talking to a resident about Park Village. That is why I love living in Cary NC...the sense of community!

What Can I Expect from a Professional Home Inspection?

What Can I Expect from a Professional Home Inspection?

What can I expect from a professional home inspection is a question most buyers ask during the home buying process. The job of a professional home inspector is to look over every major part of the home and prepare a report. The usual components of a home inspection focus on the structural and mechanical properties of the home.
The example I give is if the dishwasher is dented that doesn't count as a repair. If it's leaking water that is a repair. On the day of the inspection it's best to be in attendance and follow as the home inspection takes place. That way when the home inspector finds a problem he can clearly explain the issue. Finally, the cost of the home inspection is part of your closing costs.
.

The territory covered by the home inspection:

EXTERIOR home inspection items
  • foundation - holes, cracks
  • gutters and downspouts - gaps, sagging
  • siding - warping
  • paint - peeling, blisteringHome InspectionHome Inspection - Linda Lohman Cary NC homes for sale
  • windows and doors - cracks, loose caulk
  • roof - worn spots
  • chimney - loose bricks, stone; tilting
  • driveways, retaining walls, and walkways - sagging, cracks
  • land - proper water drainage
INTERIOR home inspection items:

  • general structure - soundness, rot
  • floors and stairs - squeaking shaking
  • plumbing system - general condition, leaks, clogs
  • heating and cooling system - condition
  • electrical system - condition, proper grounding
  • insulation - thickness, efficiency
  • walls - cracks
  • kitchen - age and condition of appliances
The Home Inspection Report will be used to create a Request for Repairs to be sent to the seller. It is up to the buyer to decide which items from the home inspection will be asked to be repaired. This is part of the negotiation process between the buyer's agent and the selling agent.

It's also wise to have a home inspection done prior to listing your for sale. That way you can take care of all the repairs up front. It's a great marketing tool!
"This home has been pre-inspected!" It shows confidence in your home.
