One of the benefits of living in Florida is, of course, cooking outside on the grill year round. Here on Fort Myers Beach, we have two supermarkets to choose from for our grilling subjects if you don't want to leave the Island, a small but friendly neighborhood market, Topps, or the larger Publix. Only three miles off the Bridge and the Island is Winn Dixie and Albertsons.
On a hot summer night, there's nothing that tastes better than steak and corn on the cob cooked right on the grill. With a cool salad as a side. Maybe a scoop of ice cream for dessert. Or hamburgers smothered in onions or mushrooms, or both. The pooch, of course, love cookouts. She is always overfed on these evenings, with more than one hamburger or hotdog coming her way.
Barbecues are one of the premier forms of socializing here on the Island. Friends gather as the sun begins to fall from the sky and the smell of barcbecue sauce fills the air, along with laughter and good times.

Tiger Woods was truly amazing yesterday, coming back from a double bogie to now leading the U.S. Open on the final day. Of course, the question is: How hurt is he? He was grimacing in pain when teeing off the last couple of holes yesterday. Davis Love III coming back from an injury and having to go through the rigors of qualifying, was also impressive, but fell back on the last nine and is currently at +4. Ernie Els, known as the Big Easy in tribute to his smooth golf swing and his laid back personality, may still make a run for it today. He now stands at +3.

I'm a big golf fan. I watch all of the majors when I can. In fact, I postponed plans with friends ysterday in order to watch the Open. Next Saturday, definitely, I told our friends. My wife was a little miffed, but fortunately, she was a little tired from being in the sun a good deal of the day, so she wasn't that miffed.
I remember the final day of the British Open back in July of 1999, but not because it was a dramatic finish or because of the skill of any particular player. In fact, I recall little of the particulars. I know that Paul Lawrie won. I remember that day because I went to turn the TV to enjoy the final round of the British Open and it wasn't on. Instead, there I was treated to a scene in Cape Cod. Planes flying in the sky. I thought that I must have the worng station, so I changed it. But, it appeared that a number of tv channels were following this story. The story, as it ended up, was the tragic end of John Kenndy, Jr. His plane has crashed into an ocean off Martha's Vineyard. The final day of a British Open shouldn't be about death. Of course, golf great, Payne Stewart, shared John John's fate.

I'm a golf player as well. Fortunately, we live in an area of the cournty where you can play year round. In summer, though, it's better to get an early TTime, to avoid the worst of the humidity. Below is a list of golf courses in Fort Myers:
Whiskey Creek, Verandah, Terre Verde, Stoney Brook, Shell Point, Seven Lakes, Riverbend, Pelican Preserve, Myerlee, Lexington, Legends, Kelly Greens, Hideaway, Heritage, Gulf Harbour, Golfview, Golf Harbour, Gateway, Fort Myers Country Club, El Rio, Eagle Ridge, Crown Colony, Cross Creek, Colonial.
This doesn't include the numerous golf courses in Bonita and Naples, and of course, the little golf course on Fort Myers Beach.

This was a big day For Mimi. Her first outing at Bonita Beach Dog Park. Driving from Fort Myers Beach towards Bonita Springs it's located just before The New Pass Bridge on your right hand, south of the Fort Myers Beach city limits. It's about one mile and a half South of Lover's Key. It's a Lee County Park and Recreation Facility and its free. It's a great place to let your dog or dogs let loose without leashes. Mimi just had a heck of a time frolicking with labs, terriers, bulldogs, poodles, Maltese, collies, sheep dogs and other proud mixed breeds.
The centerpiece of Bonita Beach Dog Park is a narrow white white sand bar which streches for about a third of a mile. The Gulf of Mexico faces you in the West and behind you at high tide like today you have to walk across stretches of water to reach the small beach. Its not a big deal and even during high tide, as the depth is only a foot or two. Mimi had never been in this free of an outside environment and of course, we were a bit curious to see how she would get along with the other sniffers. Fort Myers Beach, our home, does allow does on the beach, but on leashes only, even when swimming.
So, Off goes the leash and up she goes. Jumping and running along the shore line. four larger dogs greeting her with the formal sniffing etiquette and shortly after exchanging names, e-mails and cell phones, she was part of a furry and exuberant posse. They looked so proud!
Mimi enjoyed splashing about and show off her tremendous speed or shmooze about with her posse as if they owned the beach. Well I guess they do here!

Mimi is pretty social and aside from the friendly paw pats on the shoulder from a male admirer and an attempt to be mounted, the whole experience was very positive. You just have to keep an eye on them. It is a great feeling to have your dog running about freely with a few new found buddies. ..and don't forget to bring a water container for the pooch.
After all the excitement Mimi, a one year old part Rhodesian full of energy who at times drives us nuts, finally jumped on the bed, and for the next few hours we could get some peace! Ahhh Heaven!

Now is a good time to purchase a home or invest in a property on Fort Myers Beach, but it is the best now? No. The best time would have been way back when, in the 1970's or even the 1990's.
I have clients calling me inquiring into short sales on the Island. Are there any short sales on Fort Myers Beach. There are, not a significant amount percentage wise, but a few. 19, to be exact. The lowest is listed at $229,00. In fact, there are two condos listed at $229,000, both short sales. On of these has almost 1000 square feet, located at the Marina Towers & Yacht Club, but it is a 1/1. The other contains only a little above 600 square feet. There is an interesting condo listed for $459,000, short sale, with Gulf of Mexico frontage and a wrap around balcony to enjoy. The Condo is called Batiki West and it's a gulf front corner. Marble flooring throughout. Granite counters.

Of the 19 Short Sales on Fort Myers Beach, Lee County,, 8 are single family homes. There's a cottage on $229,769, a little over 1200 square feet. There's a house with a pool on Dakota Avenue, but this is a contingent short sale (meaning there's at least one offer already being considere by the lender), so if anyone is interested, let me know ASAP. The most interesting single family short sale is a home on Fairview Blvd., listed for $607,500. On Canal with private dock. 2324 square feet, a 3/3 and build in 1990, which is New for the Island. An oversized lot.

Why are so many families and investors interested in Fort Myers Beach? I think that it may be the view.
