There was a rumor floating around the last few weeks, that the Boston Red Sox were going to change their spring training home from Fort Myers to Sarasota. As I lived in Massachusetts for several years and my wife is from the Salem area of Massachusetts, I have become a big Red Sox fan over the past few years, even the lean years when it looked like they were never going to win it all.

If this rumor was true, not only it be personally disappionting for me, but the City of Fort Myers, Lee County, would most certainly lose significant revenue. The Red Sox have become a big ticket item, partifually since their winning the World Series in 2004 and then again last year.
Now it appers that the Red Sox will stay in Fort Myers. Good news for everybody.

There wasn't a parade today. I like parades and Fort Myers Beach is particularly known for the Shrimp Festival Parade sponsored by the Lion's Club that takes place at the beginning of March every year. The parade beings at 10:00 AM or so. The bridges to the Island close at 9:00 AM. There is a 5K race before the parade. My wife is a runner, but she doesn't participate as the runners run across the Mantanza Bridge and she has a thing about heights. The parade itself is lots of fun. Lots of crazy floats with the floatees throwing beads and candy to the crowd. It's a takeoff from Mardi Gras, of course, but lots of fun. There's also a beauty contest, with the Shrimp Princesses riding atop cars in the parade. The winner, the Shrimp Queen is actually named about noon and after, shrimp in all it's edible forms is sold under tents.
I remember one parade in particular, not a Shrimp Festival event. This was a parade that took place in Naples for Martin Luther King's Day. The reason that I'll always remember it was because I was standing in Olde Town Naples with my wife watching the festivities when a group of Vietnam Veterans marched by in the Parade, wearing their uniforms, four aging black men. An elderly white man who was standing near us moved into the street a bit as the Vietnam Veterans passed us by. He put his hand on his head in a salute and kept that salute until these four black Vets were long down the road. I was touched by this man's deep feeling and when I turned to look at my wife, who had witnessed this scene as well, there were tears in her eyes.

Australier et...jetzt würde es auch groß sein, wenn sie die selben für uns taten.and ja mein schrecklicher Deutscher taten. Aber Willkommen zu Cape Coral und Florida!.

Germans Florida home buyers have had a long tradition in South west Florida. They are a large and essential part of our cultural and economical structure. They pay taxes, insurance and they should get a better incentive to purchase in Florida. ( not a word for word translation )
What can be done?One day soon when all this terrorist fear is gone I do hope that property owners who are not US citizens who spend more then six months a year in Florida do get a better treatment.And that is not for Germans only....Canadians, South Americans, Europeans in General, Asians, Africans...Australians..et.....,,,,now it would also be great if they did the same for us.and yes my German is non existent.But welcome to Cape Coral and Florida!

Sometimes we have to stop and smell the roses or in this case: take a look at thee majestic birds flying over the Gulf Of Mexico. It easy to take it for granted. We moved from MA to Key West In 1990 and all I have to do is smile and look towards the sky. I do know why so many want to visit or relocate. You may just take a stroll or power walk, swim or even harder jog Fort Myers Beach and all over sudden it hits you.This place is glorious. No words are needed.
The flight is perfect as the wings widen and effortlessly glides along the shore line. He is fishing. That is his job. He is feeding himself and his family.Or maybe its the mother.The law of nature is brutal and mesmerizing.It is the cycle of life.

Seagulls, brown pelicans, egrets, sandpipers flock around the shore line.men have long being fascinated by the beauty of a bird's flight.
