The New New New Deal

The family had a few apple trees in their backyard. Big juicy red apples grew on them. It was a banner year and there were too many apples to eat. The father told the teenagers that it would be OK if they sold some apples to folks in the neighborhood.

The kids set up a little stand and placed a few signs around the area. They researched grocery store prices and set their prices a quite a bit lower. It did not take long for them to start selling apples. Business was good. And then...

One day a county agent showed up. He inquired if they had a business license. He also wanted to know if they had a permit for all of the signs they had placed. Had they had a health inspection? Did they get a taxpayers ID? How were they handling sales tax? Was the "orchard" OK with Dept. of Agriculture? Yada, yada, yada.

Lots of government regulations stand in the way of capitalism. You need a permit for this and a license for that. By the time you get done paying for everything, you have no money for your business. At a time like this in our nations economy, why not make it a bit easier for the average Joe to start a small business? Why not cut some of the red tape that is required in order to do business in a community?

With the current President and his cronies in place, I do not think it will happen. Easier to just take from anyone who works and give to someone who does not. Easier to foster more class envy instead of thinking up ways to get more people to the top. Easier to just say the problem was inherited rather than try to fix the problem. Easier to talk about hope and change than actually come up with some new change.

Our new President is daily showing that 145 days in the Senate did not properly prepare him for what he is trying to do.

Millions are paying for me

With all of the economic problems going on in our country right now, it seems we should go sit on a street corner with a cup and a cardboard sign. But even that may be too much work. Our President and his cronies are giving so much money away with all of these new spending bills, that any work at all might be passe.

As we move forward into 2009 and beyond, the concept of hard work may be something we just do not need in this country anymore. Instead of the pride of a job well done, we may start to treasure the pride of a big fat government handout. Why get up at 5 am to go to work when you can sleep in until noon, go buy groceries with your food stamps card, and have your mortgage paid for you.

When I was a kid my dad had a plague on our garage wall that said "Don't quit working, millions on welfare depend on you". The whole idea was that "we" were on the working team and not ever going to be on the welfare team. Now, with Mr. Obama's handouts, the feeling I get is that it is perfectly acceptable to be on some type of government assistance.

Is work going to become a thing of the past? Is there any pride in being a worker? If your bills need to be paid do you go get a job washing cars or do you just call the government?

I wonder if Mr. Obama has thought about this: What happens when all of us stop working and get on government assistance?

Esteemed leaders?

Are the people who we voted into office complete retards or what? Do any of them have an IQ above 90? This is getting ridiculous.

In todays news, Dems are considering a bill that would let them spend $410 billion until the end of this fiscal year, in order to keep the government running. I am sure the Republicans that I voted for will join them. Fabulous.

Brain surgeons these people are not. Leaders? I say no. If their only answer to a pile of overwhelming bills is to spend more, they are not suited for the job. Any college kid who has been through Econ 101 knows that you cant borrow your way our of debt. You don't start with a small debt and make it way bigger and announce to everyone that you have solved the debt. What a fiasco.

As we all keep up with what our esteemed leaders in Congress do over the next few months, lets all try to remember them next year at election time. They just are not qualified for the job and it becomnes more apparent everyday.

Flat as a pancake

One of the biggest problems, in my opinion, with our tax system, is the fact that the IRS gets to know how much money I made last year. Not only how much I made, but also, every other little detail of my financial dealings. This information basically becomes public knowledge and can be used by all types of government entities and news outlets.

The flat tax changes all of that. While a taxpayer would still need to list their income, a total acocunting of where and how they got every little cent would be abolished. The need for some IRS bureaucrat to know everything about me would cease.

When you get a chance, read up on the flat tax here: http://www.heritage.org/Research/Taxes/bg1866.cfm

Courageous?

Governor Arnold of Cantaffordya called the legislators of his state "courageous" in passing the new state budget. When I read about the new California budget I could not believe it. They are increasing taxes something like $15 billion, borrowing $11 billion and cutting education $13 billion. What?

Well hell, then all Americans who are in financial doodoo are courageous. With the exception of being able to steal from or tax others, there are a whole lot of people who are borrowing money and then cutting important parts of their budget, in order to stay afloat. Are they courageous too, Gov?

As long as we keep on electing these fools we will keep getting what we deserve. Stupidity of the highest order.
