In its time, Stonebreaker Heights was considered one of Tulsa's more exclusive residential areas, and because of its proximity to downtown Tulsa and the Tulsa River Parks, its values are holding, if not increasing.

Stonebreaker Heights boundaries are 15th Street to the north; 17th Street to the south; Elwood Avenue to the west; and the alley between Cheyenne and Boulder Avenues to the east. Home in Stonebreaker Heights

Also within the Stonebreaker Heights historic district is the Resonance Mansion, a center for women. Built by oil baron Frank Beene, the Resonance House is a 3-story Georgian Revival mansion.

The close proximity to the popular River Parks on the Arkansas river and bordering downtown Tulsa make Stonebreaker Heights a wonderful living choice for young professionals and those who work and play in midtown Tulsa and downtown Tulsa!

Those who read my blog know that I'm pretty strict with my Tulsa home sellers - always giving a list of painting and updating assignments before we list their Tulsa home for sale. My fun Tulsa home seller was getting tired and grouchy about all the work, so she sent me this photo of a bedroom she was asked to paint - she spelled out, "Lori is GROOVY!" Enjoy the laugh!

Detached Garages and Porte-Cochères loved in midtown Tulsa

In many areas of midtown Tulsa, you'll discover that detached garages are the norm. To us, this is visually appealing and we're willing to sacrifice the convenience of transferring groceries through an attached garage. With no garage attached to the garage, you're apt to find nicely landscaped patio areas beside our homes or side porches, both open or screened in.

Porte-Cocheres in midtown Tulsa

It's also easier to add living quarters above a detached garage and many midtown Tulsa homes DO have living quarters that are rented out. Detached garages can also lower the cost of your homeowner's insurance because you are reducing the changes of a garage fire spreading to your primary living area. Because they are two separate dwellings, in some instances, the utilities are separate also.

Our home was built in 1915 and instead of a garage, we have a detached carriage house. Thought to have originally housed servants, our family has rented out the carriage house over the years.

You'll also find porte-cochères on the exterior of many midtown Tulsa homes. The literal French translation of porte-cochère is "coach gate" and is the architectural term for a portico-like structure at a main or secondary entrance through which a horse carriage or motor vehickle can pass in order for the occupants to alight under cover, protected from the weather. We have a porte-cochère adjoining the large covered front porch of our casa that is simply breath-taking.

Our midtown Tulsa homes offer elegant architecture rich in history. Drive by or take a walk down our sidewalks - do stop and visit if we're sipping tea on the porch!
