East Meets West - The Year of the Dragon

Most Sunday mornings I start the day by walking to one of the Farmer's Markets. One of the largest ones is the Heart of the City Farmer's Market held at the United Nations' Plaza near the Civic Center.

There's always something going on in San Francisco--people to chat with and learn from, new ideas to ponder. I suspect this beautiful dragon will have a major role in the Chinese New Year parade which will be held Saturday evening, 2/11/12.

"The fog comes on little cat feet ...."
This January morning is a good example of just how quickly the weather changes. This first picture was taken around 7:30 AM. You can see the top of Mount Tamalpais on the left, Tiburon in the middle, and Angel Island on the right:

By 8:10 AM the view had changed to this, with just a hint of Mt. Tam showing:

Absolutely beautiful! The ephemeral nature helps one focus on the present, and enjoy what IS.
Carl Sandberg's poem says it best:
Why Living in the San Francisco area is so great--
Reason #2 - We know how to party and celebrate our local communities

These young women were celebrating the inauguration of Mayor Ed Lee a couple of weeks ago. Leung's White Crane will be participating in the Chinese New Year's festivities. The Year of the Dragon begins on January 23, while the Chinese New Year parade in San Francisco is set for Saturday, February 11.
Good times to be enjoyed by thousands!
